I think many of you have misunderstood what I said. I have full faith in the coaching, and I think we have an OL room full of talent that will be sufficient for us to be playoff caliber. What I am saying is to be a national champion, you need elite players. Looks at DB. We have Leonard Moore, Adon Shuler, Tae Johnson. Were we content? No, we added McKinney and Sanders, plus still have Gray and Talich, plus have lots of young talent that can grow and develop. That is an elite, elite, championship caliber unit. On OL, we have Lambert, who played at a high level and, with continued development and coaching, should be a monster. We have Jagusah, who has been unable to stay healthy…but when he was healthy in last years playoffs, looked like a 1st round talent. We have Knapp, who everyone loves to hate on and wants to move to G or C, but will have played the majority of snaps at LT for 3 full seasons (assuming he stays healthy in 2026 and comes back in 2027). Those 3 seem to qualify as upper echelon. After that, you have guys who play hard and could continue to develop (Otting, Absher), but who are not at the level of national champ starter. Maybe they can get there, and if so no need for portal. I have my doubts. Then lastly, you have young unproven talents like Black, Augustine, McKeogh, etc. I certainly hope that Rudolph gets them up to that level, and there is an absolute chance they can. My point was only that next year, we could have the WRs and DTs and DBs to finally not have to spend a lot on those positions in the portal. We may have to spend a lot on a QB…but we could focus on one elite OL, too, and close the gap from having a good starting unit to having one of the top 3 OL in college.
