Singer update (most of which is already known)

RE Brewu

Suppose to head to Indiana after the dead period (Thursday). Believes he will come off the board today. Still giving Irish the edge.
Let me know what time. I'll go throw out some barricades and detour signs on I-69. The dude will be so lost it will be Friday before he gets there and Cignetti will already be on his way to Miami.

Here's my thought on backup QB -- if CJ Carr gets hurt, the season is already over.

I am I crazy or should we be spending $0 on a QB?
Think that depends on the injury.

Schedule is cake next year. If he's out for the year, sure.

But, a couple of games? Gimme a band-aid, win some walk-overs, and keep on trucking until CJ gets back.

An experienced backup would be good insurance.

Color me optimistic but I think with the collective talent of Hebert, Grubbs and Jarrard, we don't really need a backup QB from the portal. Let those guys compete for the #2 job and get the next man in ready.

If we can get a more veteran arm without doling out portal cash, maybe? But it feels like Carr will likely be gone after this year anyway and those #2 reps are going to be vitally important for 2027, unless they're already thinking we need a transfer that year.

6' 290 carries differently than 6'5'' 290. the former anchors a bit better and is harder to move. the latter requires better leverage and even though might look better on paper, inside at times it's easier to move. I can see Brewu being a plugger and hopefully just disruptive enough to be an advantage on the DL

I honestly wonder if there’s some former four or five star DT kid somewhere considering jumping into the portal simply bc he sees a huge playing time and payday opportunity in South bend,…

Hoping/wondering,… same shit

I kinda thought same thing.

But I figured I would get blasted like no other if I brought it.

All this is great but we still have not got dtackles.. All this means nothing unless this can be addressed
Absolutely incorrect.

Landing a portal DT has always been a $$$ matter for 2025 and previously. The studs go to the pros. They will get DT’s.

ND landed a 5 star WR freshman from the portal from OSU. This player left OSU to get more money from ND. This player sees ND as a legitimate option to get him to the NFL. These are not realities we were living in last week.

A 5 star WR freshman using NIL and playing time as a selling point. This can not be understated. If he hits this alters the trajectory of the WR position at ND in the present and future. Another Dawson or Dawson+ does not fundamentally change the DT position. They will sign a DT, if they don’t, mods please ban me until the Wiscy game.

Backup QB is needed in case Carr gets a short term injury, e.g. Wimbush filling in for Book in the 2018 FSU game. I don’t think Hebert is good enough to play and the freshmen are unlikely to be ready this year. And if you take someone with 2 years of eligibility, they can compete with Grubbs, Jarrad and the 2027 transfer for the 2027 job.

I agree you don’t need to spend up for it. There should be quality QB transfers that are having a hard time finding a home as the week progresses.

If Brewu would have been offered by ND as a recruit, how many dudes out here rubbing their nipples for him in The Portal would have shit thumb tacks?

Undersized three star DT.....not exactly what most covet out here. Yet if they don't get him now, The Portal is somehow a massive failure?

It's interesting how this all works now.

Singer is hinting that nd knows onye is going to be back
If Onye is back as hinted that would be great.

ND would have lost Hinish (smaller than Brewu), Dawson (pretty close to a size copy), Rubio (who hadn't played since 10/11 anyways) on the interior. They'll be bigger inside by default.

A proven player like Brewu would be awesome. Just has to be a guaranteed starter / massive upside to move any needle, just a body is covered IMO.

I think having size on the DL is great. It's definitely not a prerequisite for being an elite unit. This is Indiana's DL:

Mikhail Kamara (6'1 260)
Tyrique Tucker (6'0 300)
Mario Landino (6'4 284)
Daniel Ndukwe (6'3 244)

That is a small unit, and they are abusing opposing OLs all postseason.

It’s not just Brewu,… it’s the insane need for any above average starter at this point, he just happens to be what’s left (as far as we know)…

That first step is probably the most important thing of all.

What’s even crazier is that all of those guys were either unranked or in the 100s of their respective positions coming out of high school & 80s + in the portal.

Ok what DT jumped into the portal yesterday? Driskell just said someone who entered into the portal yesterday the staff is trying to make in roads with and it would be someone that isn’t just a sub if we miss on Brewu.

I usually only like rubbing my nipples to big, thick men, but I just want to see enough quality depth on the DL.

If any of the younger kids are legit future starters for the Irish you have to figure they can hold serve NOW for a game or two against this schedule,… if Carr gets a massive injury I doubt any transfer that’s willing to backup would be able to carry the team anyway,… thoughts?
