In case MSU Edge player Thompson doesn't pan out, could be worth a look as a DL depth player.

Would be way down the line if ND struck out on top 2-3 targets but good size.

And it's improved?
I’d say it has. There’s more parity, fewer teams that are stocked with five stars on their practice squads. And, most importantly, players are still getting chewed up and spit out but at least they have a little money in their pockets for whatever comes next.

I mean, both teams in the NCG last year had transfer QBs. This year, 3/4 (or I guess 4/4) teams in the semifinals do. If a team wins with a portal QB, what's the issue with not being able to recruit a QB out of HS, who may or may not reflect their ranking? Miami having a seasoned QB and us having a brand new QB in the first game certainly benefitted Miami.
IT would be odd for a backup QB not to try for a starting job. I feel for Pyne/Angeli/Minchey but that's life in the market.
He was Arch Manning’s roommate and a favorite target. Pretty damned surprising
"Some things are out of my control." Yeah, market forces.

Mannnnn... Some serious value adds in the Portal at TE right now. Guys with a lot of talent and multiple years of eligibility.

I'm no expert but it seems like we have plenty of young TEs and what would be ideal is a stud TE w/ one year remaining.

Did any ND interest in Tulsa's Brody Foley ever materialize? I haven't seen that he's a visitor to campus.

Jaylen Mbakwe in the Portal after his freshman year at Alabama where he played DB before switching to WR. 100% yes please on that kid's upside, regardless of what side of the ball he wants to play on. ND recruited him out of high school, I'd be curious to see if they're interested in circling back for another look... 3 years of eligibility remaining. Was the composite #12 player nationally coming out of high school last year.

God, at this point who the hell ISN'T in the portal?
By time it's said and done you're probably talking an average of about 13-15 players per FBS roster, or approximately 1768-2040 players. That's just among the 136 FBS teams.

I'd venture to guess that in an average cycle, Notre Dame will between in that 8-12 range in terms of Portal additions and their is maybe 250'ish players that they'd seriously look at and consider as options to fill needs.

Really loose and inexact numbers of course, but I'm trying to provide an idea of scope and magnitude.
