TBF, the difference between 10.54 and 11.01 is fairly sizable when you get to that level. I love seeing fast times but they are rarely a predictor of excellent RB. In fact, I don't know what the threshold for a speed that would be disqualifying?

I'm fairly certain both of the freshmen RBs coming in rand under 11.

All that said, Williams has shown some great flashes despite two top NFL RBs being in front of him. They seemed to really like Nolan James last year as well. Lots of good competition this offseason.
The difference between those 2 is seismic....I just glossed over that as if it was a joke. It's like comparing acceleration between a guy running 4.2x with a guy running 4.65😂😂😂

Jeanty didn't run the 40 last year at the combine or pro day. I think Love is confident too, but he doesn't have anything to prove. He'll be the 1st RB off the board no matter what, so running the 40 won't help him. I'd be surprised if he does anything pre-draft other than team interviews.
He probably only runs it at his Pro Day to see if he can go sub 4.35.

For real 5 tenths of a second is quite a gap. I didn't realize J Love was that fast in high school track WOW.

If I were him I'd opt out of the 40. If anybody has a question about how fast he is, I'd just say did you watch any of my tape?
He would've easily been in the 10.4 range as a SR if he didn't get caught up in the COVID era....Didn't run much at all the last two years.

I don’t know anything about sprint times. I just don’t remember ever seeing a Notre Dame RB who gained separation from DBs once he reached open field as often and easily as Love did.

Of course Williams will be step back from that. But he looks to be a very capable and multi-dimensional RB1 for us, who probably would have held that job on many good teams this season.

anybody besides me worry that he gets angry and leaves if the staff does take Smothers from the wolfpack if Smothers wants in

If they surprise him with this? Yes.
I'm sure the staff has communication with him on the plan for next season though.

This season emphasized the benefit of having 2 legit RBs to split carries and not negatively impact draft status , not sure why he would be upset

I’d be more worried about Young and James being put off by the Smothers acquisition than Williams. Williams is going to be in the rotation … not necessarily true for Young and James and this all but ensures a year riding the bench for one or both of them.

I imagine there will be more a committee approach than this year, unique circumstance to have the NFL draft top 2 RB’s in the same class and thus dominate the carry load .

Seider’s history shows that he favors a two-back rotation. I don’t foresee a committee approach in ND’s backfield while he is coaching the RB room.

Smothers still has two years of eligibility? It looks like he only played in four games as a freshman.

This would be a threat to Young and James beacuse Sieder only plays two.

Yeah I understand that is his reputation, but that must be somewhat personnel dictated . For instance, without Seider at PSU , Allen and Singleton had 333 combined carries this year, next most for RB was 6.

I can already see the debate coming out of the Spring about Williams being 1A or 1B RB b/c fans have been spoiled w/ Love & Price the past three years. Just b/c he’s not the Doak Walker Award winner, doesn’t mean he can’t be a weapon. And as great as his garbage time runs were they were against some really bad first team defenses (like Arkansas & Stanford) or backups. Still love what he did & showed b/c as much positive as we heard about James coming out of camp, he looked pedestrian in mop up duty. Doesn’t mean he can’t be a factor as well. If fans can set reasonable expectations, he Williams should be good.

He started at Oklahoma and then transferred to NC State. I would think he’d be a case that would hard to get passed the admissions office.

A player like Smothers or Nick Marsh may have 2 years of eligibility but they’re transferring so they can showcase their talents as juniors & declare for the draft. If they’re playing their fourth year, that means they suffered an injury or regressed.

I don't think getting Smothers would effect Aneyas. Regardless who the RB is, he's sharing carries with at least 1other for the majority of the touches.

Getting Smothers effects the other RBs much more than it does him IMO.

I get why they would want Smothers as he's a proven commodity whereas the other 4 RBs have no experience or next to no experience and with Kedren Young, who knows how he's going to come back from his ACL?

If they get Smothers, hopefully Sieder allows Young to still be the short yardage back.

Alright, sorry yall. I was just joking to tease the bedwetting trolls but after a DM from the staff I realized it was me who was, in fact, being the troll. I'll chose better
The staff is cracking down? I thought this is America
