Why should BYU be punished for being a top 2 team in the Big 12 and losing its championship game, but Alabama wasn't?
Seriously? They're closer to being a G5 conference than a P4. The current Big 12 teams have two NC's in their entire history... fewer than multiple SEC teams have just in the past 25 years. I get the anger right now, but this is a silly take. Get real.

Isn't Bama the only team ever to not get dropped spots after a conference loss (pounding)? Its dubious. Expect ND fans to death ride your conference for the next month.

I don't disagree. I've said more than once in the past week that I thought my guys shouldn't have gotten in. I'm just pointing out WHY the committee may have done what they did, not agreeing with it. I've ALWAYS consistently been for "best team" in the BCS CG, the 4-team playoff, or the 12-team playoff, not "4 best conference champions" or "prettiest resume" or "most deserving" or any of the rest of that stuff. Just who are the 2/4/12/16 best teams - the ones you think would beat the others, the ones you'd bet money on if you had to. I think ND is one of those 12 teams this year, but Bama isn't. I think the committee had already decided that the top two from the SEC and B1G were in no matter what. I get why, but I don't like it even though it benefited my guys.
This is a fair take. And I agree BYU didn’t deserve it despite playing in their CCG. Anyone w/ a brain can see the B1G & SEC are the only two conferences where you take the two CCG participants. I’m not even saying Bama should’ve been outside looking in but they most definitely should’ve dropped at least one slot after that blowout loss. IIRC, the only time I team didn’t drop after a CCG loss was when TCU lost by a walk off FG in the B12 CCG. The Committee didn’t even try to hide the fact that they were not going to adversely affect Bama. Just dropping them a slot would’ve saved some credibility but alas.

TCU didn’t get dropped after losing by 3 pts in OT back in ‘22. But that’s the only instance. Had Bama played UGA that close, I’d have no problem w/ them not dropping. But they got protected by the committee after UGA drop kicked them. They’ll probably win a few games now & the narrative will switch back.

I said it several days ago and it's still true, but most Bama fans I know don't think we should've gotten in. Most of us would've put ND in ahead of us. I don't think our powers that be did much more than a token "We deserve to go" campaign. Saban strongly hinted that ND should've gotten in and a number of former players such as Mark Ingram and Damien Harris said it should've been ND over us. I'd rather have gone to a decent bowl and finished the season with a win instead of the playoffs where I shot at winning is all but 0.

God bless all you college football fans who’ll watch any of the Playoffs this year. I have much better things to do. Hopefully this is the last time I’ll click on this thread, though I probably won’t be able to help myself

Fuck Alabama, fuck Oklahoma, fuck Miami, and fuck the dumb ass idiots on the committee

86/88 since 2014 have dropped but not the one that lost by 21 points and couldn’t rush for a positive yard.

Im definitely not watching. I havent had ESPN/ESPN2/etc on my tv for one second since the selection show. Deleted my espn app, cancelled espn+. I may watch ND mbb when theyre on acc network but otherwise my pettiness knows no bounds.
Same.

Any ESPN I watch is anything but college football. Absolutely refuse. I hope Bama and Miami get curb stomped. Don't know where I'll be, but I'll know about it and I'll be happy.

I just read that Bama hasn’t lost to the same opponent twice in the same season since 1893 or something.

Just really hoping that Bama gets there shot packed in and that every SEC team loses at the earliest possible opportunity

Well, that doesn’t mean much. Until the CCGs, it virtually never happened that you played the same team more than once a season. It might happen a little more in the expanded playoff. But that statement really doesn’t mean anything.

An article about it on al.com today says this will only be our 7th time ever. Oddly, this will be our 2nd rematch this season. Tulsa is the only other program to do that since the early 1900s.

Hang on though, no one said compare Alabama and BYU. That isn't being discussed because that's absurd.

Another absurd thing: BYU looked more competitive than Alabama in the CCGs but one fell a couple spots and the other stayed locked in, breaking 20+ years of historical precedence when a team loses, or worse, gets blown off the field.

Anyone else completely ignoring, have little to no interest, and likely not watching the playoffs?

Even my X algorithm stopped showing me college football stuff.
I’ve been an all-in CFB fan as long as I can remember. I basically block off each Saturday in full, I watch every bowl game, and hell, I even do the college football power hour every year a week before the season begins (don’t judge).

I will not be watching a single playoff game, which feels very foreign to me. I will just check the results just out of morbid curiosity.

With how the selection went down (leaving out a team that should so clearly be in due to politics— and one that could win it all), the results of this playoff now feel null and void, and so I couldn’t care less. I will gain my time back and put it toward more valuable stuff.

Yeah the thing about a lot of these college stats is that its quite silly. "wow this team has not won 10 games in a season since 1954! Their opponent, Ohio State has done completed that feat the last X number of seasons." Yeah...well 10 wins used to mean you went undefeated AND won your bowl game. Turns out it was quite difficult relative to today.

Today, one year ago, I was jacked out of my mind for the Irish playoff game.

Today, I feel nothing about the playoff games about to happen.

If I watch any of them it will be because I got tired of watching the One Tree Hill or Dawson's Creek reruns that my wife puts on if I am not watching sports.

What a difference a year makes.

IT Welcome to Derry or Landman. Both are very good shows. Watch one or both of them.

I'm with ya though.

1st round ratings last year:
Tennessee vs. Ohio State ~14.3M
Indiana vs. Notre Dame ~13.4M
Texas vs. Clemson ~8.6M (played at the same time as Ravens vs Steelers)
SMU vs. Penn State ~6.4M (played at teh same time as Chiefs vs Texans)

Bama vs OK will be high b/c both fan bases are massive and they're not competing with NFL. Could be an absolutely turd of a game based on how these two teams have looked the last month.

AnM vs Miami not competing with NFL, so ratings should be okay. Miami fans, who have a bizarre obsession with TV ratings, will convince themselves the public gives a shit about them, but views will be driven by AnM.

ESPN completely screwed TNT with the other two games. Awful matchups, shoved into NFL windows. Oregon–JMU being played at teh same time as bears vs packers - ratings will be embarrassing.

I’ll watch some of the game tonight and the AnM game tomorrow. There's no chance I'm watching those other two piles of garbage, adn I don't even follow the NFL.

ESPN always one step ahead of the rest.
