I would 100% take a transfer QB. What we have is not close to good enough if Carr gets hurt. If it turns out that one if them surprises in a major way, then you go from there.
I see a lot of people saying something like this on various ND boards, but realistically, what options are there?
-What QB that is good enough to be QB2 at ND and overtake Hebert would go somewhere that they will not start?
-What QB willing to be QB2 is good enough to overtake Hebert?
-No way you bring in a QB and tell them there is a QB competition for QB1. You will lose Carr immediately, and I would not blame him one bit for leaving in that scenario.

Fans think this unicorn QB exists, but I do not see it. Any QB ND takes will not be exciting to any ND fan because they are likely not very good.

Michigan (of all places) brought in the perfect back-up with experience that might not play. A player of this caliber would be best case, if you bring one in.

Still don’t think admissions will let him through.
I'm legitimately asking as I don't know, but is this really still even a thing anymore? I don't meant this in the sense that they just let anyone through, but in the MF Era have we reached out to anyone and been told no by admissions? I feel like the staff has a good handle on who is a non-starter and doesn't waste time, but I could be off.

Over/Under talk on portal additions, by position, from Prister, Brice, and O'Malley on today's II Podcast:

QB (0.5): All said over (1)
RB (1.5): All said under, O'Malley thinks exactly 1
WR (2.5): Prister-Over (3), Brice/O'Malley-2, but O'Malley thinks it will be 3 if they lose someone
TE (0.5): Prister-Over (1), Brice/O'Malley-Under
OL (0.5): All said under
DT (1.5): All said over and are extremely confident that it will be 2
DE (0.5): Prister-Under, Brice/O'Malley-Over (1)
LB (0.5): All said under
CB/NB (0.5): All said over
Safety (0.5): All said under

They all agree that ND will get a Kicker and a Punter

It's one thing to say that such a QB will not be available. It's another to say you wouldn't take him if he was.

Seems to me that there could be a young QB who got beaten out by another young QB with 2 or more years of eligibility, who would be willing to transfer to sit out 1 year.

I think it’s possible to bring in someone who is willing to be 2nd string for a year then be the starter when Carr leaves.

It would probably be a frosh (sophomore to be) that the staff feels is good enough to win the job. It’s either that or a grad student who comes for the Master’s and football is a bonus.

Either way, it will be someone they think is better than Hebert and Grubbs.

Anybody that’s not a clipboard holder would have to be like Dante Moore did. But Carr is probably gone after 2026, not definitely like Bo Nix.

Does Hillman count? Admissions pulled some BS with what they specifically wanted and then went behind the football programs back.

The problem is that Admissions doesn’t work in good faith on the undergraduate transfer issue.

I honestly feel he stays 2 more years. Next draft is loaded. He wont have 30 starts in college even. History shows that’s a critical number

Probably not a difference maker, but posted 105 tackles, 11.5 TFLs and 3 sacks over his last 15 games.

TTU’s backup kicker just hit the portal. Doesn’t have much of a resume but seems solid

The whole “plans to enter the portal” breaking news is so interesting because before Jan. 2nd it’s technically against the ncaa rules to make contact. I just saw this… If a player has decided but not entered, coaches can't legally reach out, but once the player is in the portal (even if it's just before Jan 2nd), the floodgates open for contact from other programs, making pre-portal "unofficial" talks common but risky if done outside NCAA guidelines.

I could see a solid Ivy League QB transferring to ND to be a backup. Or a solid backup at another school who realizes he’s maximized his potential & wants to start working on becoming a coach. Being a backup & working w/ Gino & Denbrock is a good start.

Eric Hansen stated that Jason Onye would be thrilled to come back for one more season at ND. Problem is he needs NCAA approval for a sixth season. We can all recount how many ND players who were worthy of that were rejected by ND. Jack Coan being the most recent.

1000 they will reject him sadly... and then give someone on another team in exact same situation a 6th year

Tell him to enter the portal and file his application without a school attached , then come back.

Should be the #1 target at DT unless CJ Fite hops in. He is rated anywhere from the 2nd-4th round and I believe he is a grad transfer. Freak athlete.
The tweet said he had 21 hurries. I thought that sounded impressive. Disappointed to find out he had 21 TACKLES and only 3 hurries.
