The main college page on reddit is fun today. I've got about 100 pissed off Georgia fans messaging me cause they said ND is soft for declining a bowl game, and I said yall should know soft after last years bowl game. Really hit a nerve with them

ESPN is just mad because we refused to play their game. We decided we didn't want to be screwed and then say thank you, please do that again? Heck no! You spend a month trashing us on every broadcast, podcast, etc. We are not going to let you profit off of us. I love that we probably started the trend of the bowl system collapse. Who broadcasts and owns the TV rights to 90% of the bowl games? You guessed it. ESPN. That's why they are mad. ND said screw you. We don't need your consolation prize when we would have been in if it weren't for you. Now the whole thing is going to come down. Small consolation, but its something.

I think ND is done trying to earn favor with groups that won't hesitate to screw them when given the chance. Who cares that people are upset about us opting out? They are the same ones that would be rejoicing if we were 5-7 and not bowl eligible.

Oh no, this might mean the end of all the meaningless bowl games? Sounds like a "them" problem.

It’s insane how quickly people forget ESPN screwed us YTTV subscribers for weeks. The public was very anti-ESPN during this period.

ND is sticking it to ESPN now and people can’t put 2 and 2 together.

Yeah, that's the reason bowl season is dying. Under the BCS there was a clear tier of prestigious bowls available if you didn't make the NCG. And under the 4 team playoff at least there was a couple of NY6 bowls available. Now? It's playoffs or the fucking Pop Tarts Bowl. The fall off is so step it's not worth it.

I'm so jaded about the committee and biases at this point that I have no doubt they would have had Bama 9, Miami 10, ND 11, USC 12. This was a predetermined outcome, and short of turning one or both of our losses into wins, nothing was going to change it.

Given the SEC bias and the head of the committee making up rules to protect the conference, I don't think that game would've made a difference. OU/Bama, OU/LSU, Bama/Auburn screwed us. We just needed 1 of those games to go our way.
