This is the perfect Ari Wasserman Tweet.

Say something stupid that can be proven wrong with even 10 seconds of research (ND is ahead of Miami in the literal writers’ poll), then spend 24 hours smugly arguing with hundreds of people about how you’re actually right and they’re stupid.

They should really invent a way for the media to express their view on the rankings

Odds cooled off and stabilized after me and many others made tickets for worst case scenario.

I’d say Vegas is all in on ND making it.

I agree but I wouldn't say "all-in." As of last night on FD I noticed TTU beating BYU was -550. ND's odds to make the CFP were -520.

It's obvious what Vegas and everyone else is paying attention to this weekend. BYU wins, ND is out. CFP Committee made the decision to protect OU and Bama despite everything the advanced metrics are telling us.

"We want the best teams in" my ass. You want a half SEC field with a damn G5 participation trophy participant.

Expanding the playoff will never solve the issue of bubble team debates. But if you're looking to have a 8 team minimum field between the B1G and SEC, plus a G5 guarantee...this system with 12 will never work. It's all rigged.

So CFP Chair said Alabama had a really strong first half against Auburn as Bama led 17-6, meanwhile ND was up 35-3.

He said Bama had a gutsy fourth down call yet ND had a fourth down fake punt that resulted in a long TD.

Said Bama ran the ball really well as they went 38/158 4.2 ypc. Meanwhile ND went 38/197 5.2 ypc.

What a clown this guy is.

Five fair-to-middlin’ SEC teams in a field of 12, which could include two G5 is WILD.

Sorta makes you realize why the B1G is so adamant about their plan for the future of the CFP.
B1G should have canceled their 9th conference games this year and played a bunch of nobodies the week before rivalry week, so more of their teams could be 10-2 and try to get into this thing.

Really hoping the 9th conf game in the SEC starts to help this issue.

as long as you have auto bids you will have this mess

there are recognized metrics that pretty much make everything by the numbers if you want to pick the best teams

Haven't seen this mentioned, but Hunter Yurachek is the current Athletic Director at Arkansas

For every SEC team that makes it into the playoff, his school profits from the payout getting divvied up amongst conference members.

He literally has a financial incentive to protect Bama and OU. This whole thing is so unbelievably stupid.

Because everything we need to happen is heavily in our favor, and it's pretty clear cut what needs to happen. Nothing Miami needs is in their favor or even easily explained. If Miami has been behind ND for a while now, and they didn't jump them this week, what makes anyone think that they jump them while both are idle? I think looking back, it's a blessing they had Bama jump us as it's in our favor for them to get beat and drop between us and Miami (if it plays out that way). Bama is going up against the best team (In our favor) in the SEC and BYU is going up against the best team in the state of Texas (In our favor).

ND's odds are right where they should be.

I am not exactly sure how it is appointed but it shouldn’t be a sitting AD.

Of all the things wrong w/ the selection process, the blatant conflicts of interest might be the top choice for me. Auto-bids are a close second. Probably 1a and 1b at this point. Fair representation is non existent within a sport that has two power conferences and then everyone else. They need to go back to computer rankings and then a committee, made up of non-affiliated, third party voters can put weight on the "eye test." The eye test being 1 of many factors, not a deciding factor. Until they change 1a and 1b, this will be a shit show every year.

And it's just going to get worse, with SEC and B1G having pretty much free rein to do whatever they want with reconstructing the playoff in the future. This is gonna get worse before it gets better I fear

The committee currently has ADs from all 4 power 4 conferences - SEC (Arkansas) Big 10 (Nebraska), ACC (Virginia), and Big 12 (Utah). Also ADs from Miami, OH and MTSU. Its not hard to imagine lobbying and jockeying from conferences to include their teams in any way possible. There is tangible monetary incentive to do so. This system is flawed in many ways.

They need to put retired coaches on this committee. Would not be perfect but would have to be better

It’s also important to note that Clay Travis is a cynical asshole who doesn’t actually believe in anything and will beat whatever drum he needs to beat about anything if it’ll make him money and raise his profile.
And that makes him different from others in the space...how?

Could Yurachek's comment about idle teams also be grounds for optimism? If Bama loses, we could conceivably be compared to OU. I'd rather they renounce that rule altogether but it sounds like 8-10 are tightly clustered.
If "who is better" between Bama and ND was really decided on, 'Alabama's "great, gutsy 4th down call" and road win at Auburn as a factor in placing them ahead of Notre Dame in the fifth rankings release', they are going to do whatever they want and none of us are going to figure it out.

Well, maybe @burmafrd1944 . He seems to have a good pulse on all of this.
