It's always hard to beat a team twice but TT is VERY good and BYU is just OK. On paper they should win comfortably.
If the rumors Pate is circulating are true, there can be distractions in the coaching room for BYU anyways.

ND is above Miami in every single one of these except Sagarin SOS, where Miami is 28 and ND is 32…..

I go pretty hard on this guy because I find him to be a total slob, but this CFP debate has revealed how many CFB analysts are essentially just regurgitating stats (him, Wasserman, etc.) or saying a whole lot of nothing (Pate).

It's also amazing how so many people who get paid to watch, understand, and write about college football fundamentally do not understand how the sport works either through actual or willful ignorance. "Head to head has always been the foundation of our sport," my brother in Christ, have you ever watched college football before this season? Or the BYU people and their just regurgitation of their record over and over again. It's just people taking NFL arguments and applying them to college football.

I've leaned on the FSU/ND debate in 1993 as the prime example of this being faulty thinking, but this article served as a reminder of all the times that the modern CFP committee has preferred one team over another despite a head-to-head result going in favor of the lower ranked squad:

Committee absolutely needs to downgrade Ole Miss. I recall FSU having a perfect resume and being excluded in 2023 because people knew it was turned south.

That isn't going to fix the OU/Bama/Miami/ND logjam unless they drop to 11 or something.

It’s amazing how many people, on how many issues, see college football through an NFL lens when they are in reality rather different sports.

I get it from NFL people when they’re talking draft picks or thinking Belichick was going to walk in and turn around North Carolina. And the coaches like Sark and Cristobal are simply advancing their agenda.

But people like Fallica and Ari Wasserman who have covered college football for years really ought to know better.

I believe was the rationale was (paraphrasd) "They weren't the same team without their starting QB."

Will be interesting to see how significant not having the entire starting offensive staff will be.

BYU’s lone NC was when they went undefeated in the WAC & got matched up w/ a .500 Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl. They squeaked by scUM & got the ring.

If we stay at 9 bama and byu would have to win to eliminate us is what everyone else is thinking? BYU wins and Bama lost... bama gets pushed out... if they keep us 9 bama would have to be first out.. am I wrong here

To be fair, if the roles were reversed, we would 100% be making those same arguments. It’s not that they’re completely baseless, it’s just that the field is so big in CFB and the schedules have such little overlap and the quality of teams is so wide and the sample size so small that there really is no objectively right way to compare teams.

Good thing about both these games, there’s the bye incentive for both UGA and TT

No offense to the Ole Miss players I know it's not really fair but if they're not dropped to the 11 seed with what appears to be a first time play caller and head coach I think that's wrong. Vegas seems to think it makes a difference so it should be considered. Honestly I think they should be locked in at the 11 seed and the 12 goes to the group of 5 winner.
