The A&M loss was the worst loss I've seen since following ND (2013 to now), because of the stakes (because it was the second loss) and because we led late at home.

Honestly, let’s talk about Tuesday. Let’s say we win by 40.

Do you see us dropping?
Do you see us getting passed?

I think it’s realistic to think we stay 9th, with an outside shot of moving to 8th.
Win by 40 is super optimistic but honestly win by a million and I think it’s possible we get jumped because key parts of our resume-the close loss at A&M and the win against Pitt-look significantly worse than they did last week and a lot of teams were being compared to beat better teams that Samford.

Only bad luck was that A&M was a paper tiger. Everything else has been favorites taking care of business.

I would love for us to make the playoffs. I think we could go on a run. But that is in retrospect a killer loss.
I thought they were overrated after beating ND but they had the perfect SEC schedule this season to allow them to continuously dodge the bullet until last night.

It would make my year if this entire ACC (mostly Miami) PR Battle vs ND ends with Duke winning their conference at 7-5 and the entire conference being left out of the CFP all together.

I think Miami likely has done enough to get in as an At Large in that scenario, but still would be great fun.

Refs are doing what they can to keep SMU in control of this one early in Berkley though.

How come the head to head argument gets no play with Miami not making the ACCCG due to losing to SMU?

The only bad luck was Oklahoma beating Alabama. Pretty much everything else was chalk. I don't think anyone's shocked that A&M lost last night. I think some people were overly optimistic because they expected an upset but every contending team has been focused down the stretch.

IMO the G5 autobid should be getting more shit than anyone, but everyone loves to hate on ND.
Why? It’s not changing this year, and everyone understood that it meant more often than not an undeserving team would get the slot.

People are lobbying against ND because there’s a real chance we get jumped

ACC CCG

TEAM PATHS
--------------------------------

VIRGINIA
– In with a WIN vs Virginia Tech.
– If Virginia LOSES, they can still get in ONLY if:
• SMU loses to Cal, AND
• UNC beats NC State.

SMU
– In with a WIN at Cal.
– If SMU loses to Cal, all their “back-door” paths died when Duke beat Wake,
so a LOSS knocks SMU out.

DUKE
Duke gets in if ANY of these happen:
– SMU loses to Cal, OR
– Virginia loses AND UNC beats NC State, OR
– Virginia loses AND NC State beats UNC AND the computers
(SportSource Analytics) rank Duke ahead of Miami.

MIAMI

Miami is alive ONLY if:
– Virginia loses to Virginia Tech, AND
– NC State beats UNC,

AND THEN EITHER:
– SMU loses to Cal → ACC title game = Duke vs Miami, OR
– SMU beats Cal AND the computers rank Miami ahead of Duke
→ ACC title game = SMU vs Miami.

If Virginia wins OR UNC beats NC State, Miami is done.

So it will change in the future. It's a joke.

SMU losing to Cal would absolutely help - even if VT doesn’t pull the upset as well.

Would mean both of Miami’s losses were to unranked teams.

I really do think that the decision for the final spot will be ND and Miami. I hope I’m wrong and we stay at 9 or move up to 8.

I just don't see how Alabama gets left out if they make it to the SEC championship game. It's anybody's guess, but I don't think the committee is going to punish a team that much for losing the conference championship game

The last spot is gonna come down to ND and Miami (assuming BYU loses), and I have an uneasy feeling about how that's gonna turn out

Nah, 3-loss teams are going to miss the cut, especially one that got its ass kicked against FSU.

They won't get left out unless they get destroyed. I don't see any way that happens, though. Bama will beat UGA and Kirby's Bama struggles will continue, IMO.

I just don't think it's that simple. I think the committee views championship games as "extra credit" opportunities. Only upside, no downside. Otherwise, teams would be lobbying to not play in the game. Ole Miss and Oklahoma get to just sit home next weekend because of how the tiebreakers worked out. Bama shouldn't get punished for finishing 2nd instead of 3rd or 4th

If we don’t make it or lose tonight is the pop tart bowl our destination or is there a chance we get something else?

Last year the losers dropped, they just didn't drop out. We don't know what will happen this year.

Am I missing something? Today has been all chalk and continues to be - but all we’ve needed is TTU to win the big 12, right? Miami isn’t jumping us. Nothing has changed really. Yeah, an upset to not have to sweat the big 12 championship would have been nice. But that was always going to be the deciding game for us.
