A lot of qb keepers, not much throwing. It was pretty basic. He collided with the back on one play, but kept his poise and completed the short pass anyway.

That was a nice recovery. He also had two carries for 59 yards, and it didn't even look like he was running that fast, just eating up field with his legs. Big sneaky athletic guy. Felt a bit like watching Riley Leonard 2.0.

He looked slow on his long run, but really quick on his touchdown. Definitely a deceiving runner.

I definitely think he wasn’t running as fast as he could because the score was already a blowout. He also could have cut back and picked up more.

Maybe. He didn't seem to throttle down on his touchdown run. He downshifted and exploded through the defense.

He made himself some money last night on transfer portal

I agree though. He doesn’t seem to have the ‘it’ factor

If Minchey does indeed leave for the portal, who is our backup next year? Blake Hebert? seems risky to rely on a 3-star with no game snaps one play away from being our starter

What's the alternative?
No grad transfer with NFL aspirations is going to want to come and sit on the bench. Most sophomore/junior transfers - who might be Carr's successor - aren't going to get through admissions. Maybe you could get someone who has started for like a MAC school who'd be happy just to extend his college football career for a season. Does Drew Pyne still have eligibility?

hopefully can incentivize Minchey to stay another year I guess is the best option, but seems unlikely in current climate

Does. Buchner have another year? Could be the backup and inside the 10 yard line QB. I prefer Buchner running over Minchey. Minchey was clearly looking for an escape route to the sideline on the long run he was just above jogging on. Buchner is a mix of Minchey and Leonard. Willing to run hard and thru and into people. Minchey does not look like he wants to make contact. Inside the red zone you have to expect to get hit so I don’t see him working as opposed to using Buchner.
Could Minchey stay two more years? If Carr continues to progress we have him one more year which could leave a year for Minchey. A year here as the starter for ND is better than two for some other ACC team.

I think it would be an awful decision for Minchey to stay another year
Would feel less awful for him if we are paying him massive amount of $ to stay and work towards degree , while retaining option to transfer after next season . Guess $ depends on how staff views Hebert.

He'd cost us way more than we can afford for a backup QB.

If Carr gets injured in preseason camp , tasking Blake Herbert with starting role for the season would perhaps cost the program more than whatever it would take to retain Minchey for another season

I'm frankly amazed/impressed Minchey is still here. A lot of guys would have left before LAST season when we brought in Leonard and Angeli was ahead of him. Then again this past offseason but Angeli left instead. Kenny's got to be close to his degree by now too. Nothing but respect for the kid; he should probably go shoot his shot somewhere else next season.

Agreed and I thought that they’d have more short distance/goal line packages designed for him!?!
