It was a thread on 247 about ‘26 QBs in which Dia was already being discussed by posters before Loy chimed in.
Loy isn't the only one mentioning his name though. Both the II podcast and Mike Frank mentioned him in the past month or so as well.
Again this could be just a logical extension to second guessing Grubbs... But it's not a one off.

I think it’s because Bell had previously expressed interest and camped, and now hs won the Elite 11. I’m skeptical there is real smoke

"Dia Bell would be committed to Notre Dame right now if they offered and pushed early.

It’s a fact.

That said, they are happy with Grubbs and are excited about his potential.

… but I wouldn’t be shocked if they reach out to Dia in the near future just to have an open dialogue. They absolutely should. It’s a business. Need to check all boxes. Competition creates greatness. IMO if you can get both, get both. But they 100% should make a run at Dia."

Something just seems off here, I mean no way is Grubbs the type of player/talent you decide to take over a prospect like Bell.

Don't really think Loy would just bring this up without having some info. Either ND is already talking to him or Bell's camp is trying to get it going. This could also be wishful thinking on my part.

Why do we think that Dia Bell would want to go to ND? Because his dad is a former pro athlete? The kid is committed to Texas which you could argue is in an even better spot than nd for the future

Bell camped at ND in June of 2024 and was very interested. According to several sites, he would have committed had they offered and pushed for his commitment at the time. Instead, they pushed for Grubbs. Common theme is that they crafted the board before Denbrock became the OC. Which is why Grubbs doesn't necessarily fit with the type of QB Denbrock has had the most success with (Daniels, Ridder, etc.)

I think Grubbs is a good player and will probably be good in college. But if there is even a small possibility of getting a certified stud, ya gotta take a chance. I highly doubt Gino is even here by the time Grubbs takes meaningful snaps. I also hate the idea of letting a QB coach overrule your OC and HC (granted I have no idea if this is the case)

He camped at ND two summers in a row and visited for multiple games IIRC.

I think there's zero reason you don't but in the world of nil the dude would not come cheap

If Dia Bell wants to come, is there a reason you don't take him AND Grubbs?
I don't necessarily disagree, have to think one of Carr or Minchey is gone after this year once one of them wins the job this year. Not sure Grubbs would want to be the second QB though.

Obviously there is a chance that if you pursue Bell you lose Grubbs. If Bell says No, you could end up with a QB worse than Grubbs.

I think Grubbs could end up being very good. However, I automatically think less of him considering his QB coach is acting like a douche going around telling the world that Grubbs is a generational QB.

Goal is CJ plays 3 years. You then have 26 and 27 qb compete after. And while not ideal, always have the transfer portal

If CJ is a 3 year starter, this year probably isn’t gonna go very well

My hope would be he is a 2 year starter and then gone. If he starts for 3 years, you’re likely looking at a Klubnik like arc at best, where questions linger compared to expectations

I think it’s fair to question Gino’s ability to evaluate talent.

They’re really on the brink of fumbling the bag two cycles in a row at the most important position in football.

See, i disagree here. A lot of these qbs from football families see the bigger picture and how playing cfb helps. His family is well off enough + nil

Playing more CFB helps when you struggle at first playing CFB. If he checks every NFL box and starts let’s say 28 games, I don’t see the benefit of staying. A fourth year likely means a box wasn’t checked at some point. Which can still work out, see Klubnik mock drafts, but, I mean it wouldn’t be ideal for 2025.

Where was Klubnik projected if he left this year? I think at QB in particular, unless you're a guaranteed first rounder, maybe top 2 rounds, it makes sense to come back for another year between rev share and NIL. The hype around CJ Carr returning for a senior year when he could have left for NFL would be next level.
