FWIW the bottom 40% of income earners in the US contribute roughly 2% of total US tax revenue. The top .1% of income earners in the US contribute roughly 25% of total US tax revenue. The majority of the bottom 40% of income earners don't even pay income taxes after deductions.

FWIW between the 50s and 70s the top federal income tax rate was never below 70%. It's 37% now.

The bottom 50% own 2.5% of the wealth in this country. Billionaires and mega millionaires don't pay their fair share and still want tax breaks financed by medicare and other entitlements.

I mean what is considered the fair share? 90%? And by the way, following the Reagan tax cuts, the overall percentage of federal income tax paid by the top 1% rose

There should be a number that after reached you're taxed at 100% for everything else. Congrats you won at capitalism for the year.

Yes because of wealth inequality growing. Not really a point in your favor that we started taxing rich people less and their percentage of their contributions still rose. That just shows how obscene the top 1% and .01% are.

If a 100% tax rate was even kind of successful, wouldn’t you think there would be at least one country that tried to implement it that would have continued to keep that tax rate?

What is the fair share and who determines it?

You think billionaires pay enough already? Why was the 1% capable of paying 70% in 1965 but are unable to today? Why is the republican party constantly trying to push through tax breaks for the wealthiest people in the country?

By your logic why don't we set their rate at 20%? Who can determine what their fair share is? Fuck it set it to 5%. Billionaires gotta eat.

Money talks. No chance any politician would be able to put forth that agenda and make it anywhere close to power.

Literally the most peasant brained garbage ever. People will literally watch their world crumble around them, roads going unfixed, vets starving in the streets, power grids going down, AND still be like "uwu one day I'll be a billionaire! So taxes shouldn't be increased :3". No no no, it must be because of the 5 million, wait no - 10 million, sorry new numbers just came in - 20 million illegals that Joe Biden personally invited in that are destroying the country.

The absolute irony of someone who works for someone like me in the very industry of tax minimization is still making these kind of statements while being surrounded with evidence against his statements is incredible. The world always needs ditch diggers, by god damn those ditch diggers should at least be able to spot a raw deal.

I didn't state my position on this and not sure why you had to try and make an argument on my behalf. I asked you a reasonable, direct question:

what is the fair share and who determines it?

Again, this isn't the flex you and your dumb twitter feed think it is. Highlighting the percentage of total taxes paid by each bracket just shows how ridiculous the disparity is between the rich and poor. If you make a trillion dollars and I make $1,000 and we both pay 10% you'll have contributed 99.999999999999999% of the taxes. No one with a brain would think you the trillionaire is getting ripped off and I making a grand should contribute more.

Pretty funny too to complain about how the money is spent now while the administration you support is spending like drunken sailors.

70% for the upper bracket like it was before Regan fucked it would be a good starting point.
If I'm remembering right from fed tax class, eliminating the higher marginal tax rates did not have the effect you are attributing to it.

How is it worse?
The trade agreement with the UK? We pay more for products from the UK now. We imported $69B worth of trade from them last year.

And I'm not sure about the deal with China but I assume it is worse for us as well.
