Good strategic move by Ukraine/Zelenskyy here. Ukraine can essentially agree to a ceasefire, appear to want peace, and with the US and Russians meeting if Russia balks...it's a clear sign they are the problem (duh).

Not that any of it REALLY matters. If/when Russia fucks this deal over Trump/Vance et al will still find a way to blame Ukraine for it.

I basically agree. Specifically, the second paragraph concern that Trump's transactional approach is like a horse with blinders. There seems to be little concern for the long term impacts to short term decisions or stances.

What else is he supposed to say publicly? "Yeah Russia can have some of the land, we're going to just fight defensively from here on out and hold on for dear life" Like when you are in the war you can't really concede openly, only behind closed doors diplomatically when negotiating to end.

Agreed. I would expect that opening positions from Ukraine would be rather extreme. Part of the concern with Trump's messaging a few weeks ago was that he was undercutting the Ukraine position even before "negotiations" start. Virtually conceding things that would occur during a typical negotiation. Trump's position was that he was just being "real" and wanting to skip the first posturing phase of negotiations. Not sure if that will work or not.
