lol that's incredible. Just saying I hate a place because.....reasons! Not caring about a place, but caring enough to be super duper upset at some people booing an anthem.

POV you're a normal person and Blazers is trying to get you to write "God" instead of god and that criticizing a countries leader is hating that country.

Lol, I’m not trying to “get you” to do anything.

I don’t care much about cats either but if a cat scratched me I’d care enough at that moment. Canadians boo’d my countries anthem, yeah fuck’em. I’ll go back to not caring about them meow.

I mean he’s not going to be able to fully disband the DOE bc he won’t have 60 votes in Congress. I do think there is still value in some federal level oversight into education—specifically as it relates to Special Education.
I think what will happen is those necessary programs/jobs will get moved under another department.

I don’t disagree that they could—and some have to (like w/ SPED) as they’re protected by federal law…but I also don’t see any path to getting the requisite Senate votes. No Democrats are going to cross the aisle to support this.

Question about the agreements made by Mexico and Canada. If those were agreed upon during the Biden administration, when did they get implemented? Asking for a friend.

Speaker Johnson texts Elon Musk: 'Continue the effort' on DOGE

Scott Wong and Kyle Stewart
Reporting from Washington
Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said he texted Elon Musk this afternoon and urged him to keep up his efforts through Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to overhaul the federal government.
"I spoke with Elon. We were texting within the last hour, and I told him to continue the effort, because it's really important for us to get to restore fiscal sanity," Johnson told reporters in the Capitol.
Musk has faced fierce backlash from congressional Democrats and federal employees after he and Trump moved yesterday to shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development, known as USAID. Johnson defended Musk’s DOGE push as “positive.”
“So we welcome the oversight, the additional attention that’s being paid to it,” Johnson said of federal spending in executive agencies. “And I think these are very positive developments. And I think the vast majority of the American people believe this comports with common sense.”

Democratic senators call for probe into Elon Musk, DOGE access to federal databases

Isabella RamirezIsabella Ramirez is a politics intern with NBC News.
Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today called on the Government Accountability Office to investigate Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s decision to grant access to sensitive federal data to Elon Musk and other Department of Government Efficiency employees.
In a letter to U.S. Comptroller General Gene L. Dodaro, the senators said the accessed government payment systems process trillions of dollars in transactions each year and contain personal information for tens of millions of Americans.
“The process by which Mr. Musk’s team obtained access to these systems is troubling — as are the implications,” they wrote. “The access may threaten economic and national security.”
Warren and Wyden urged the GAO to look into which systems were accessed, whether the individuals who have access hold appropriate security clearances and if there are protections in place for Americans’ privacy.

The senators also questioned Musk’s potential conflicts of interest, pointing to an announcement that his social media platform X will be partnering with Visa on a payment system it plans to launch this year. The people who accessed the federal payment systems may have done so “for their own personal gain,” they wrote.

I honestly couldn't give much of a shit about tariffs and deportations.

Elon Musk basically running around doing whatever he wants without any checks, balances and oversight is just fucking scary. I don't care who you voted for. Nobody should want that happening now or ever.

Too much pearl clutching. He runs successful businesses and the best space program in the world. Twitter doesn't really make him money, but he's said he's willing to take the loss for free speech. Twitter was still bloated when he bought it, the platform runs just fine today if not better than before with the addition of Community Notes (Which other platforms like Facebook are now moving too instead of their "Fact Checkers"). I'm fine with it, less bureaucracy is wonderful.

A couple of questions.

Can you think of a situation where a tariff has to be used? Real case or hypothetical.

What should W have done to protect our steel industry?

Are you much of an angler? Canada and Canadian waters have amazing fishing opportunities.
Sorry I missed this.

There are much better levers a government can use to necessitate change that they want. A tariff is essentially a sales tax and one that can be easily matched by the other party and really doesn't work in our economy with the movement of capital so easy around the world. Also, it's more a lever for developing countries and......well the US hasn't been one in a long time. In a practical sense, there is really no situation in which a tariff should be used and is rejected by nearly all economists as it's end game results in both countries losing excess welfare/spending capital so unless you have a very specific goal that can be measured to be less expensive than engaging in a tariff trade war it is really never worth it.

Additionally, isolationist trade policies are not something the biggest economy in the world should ever be doing. These are done by countries like Russia.

I only ever studied the economic impact of the steel tariffs so I can't really say what he should have done. But, it seems counter to conservative values to have government intervention on the free market.

Fishing is incredible anywhere and everywhere here.

Paused, my man. And believe me they aren’t laughing. Now they have to actually implement that plan they had. And if they don’t in 30 days tariff button reengaged. Get some of that cash back.

I did read he does have a top secret clearance. But I actually agree to an extent that Elon shouldn’t be a one man wrecking back. I’m sure he has some guidance but I am also sure they probably want this advertised as Elons thing just to piss people off.

Redevelop Gaza? I know Trump loves his real estate but this isn’t an HGTV sort of flip. Damn pretty extreme!

So what do you think about the past four years of each federal department running around with no direction from the elected POTUS?

I couldn’t help but think of the Mark McGwire testimony on steroids and all of his “I’m not here to talk about the past” answers. Lol. Probably too young for that though.

It's just rich to see the bitching and moaning about not respecting checks and balances (which him cancelling grant programs that are under the discretion of the executive branch are completely aligned with) but the silence about Biden blatantly violating SCOTUS rulings on the constitutionality of forgiving student loans lol

I think all Gazans who want to leave, should be allowed to do so. The ones who want to stay, let them stay.

If it was Joe canceling Grants you wouldn’t hear complaints from those complaining now.
