It's because he said it was a bad hire when it happened and he can't move off of it. He blamed a lot of last year's play calling problems on Rudolph as well
Has any other outlet remotely alluded to there being any sort of issue? I haven’t really heard of any players thoughts on him like we did Harry

They sucked in every possible metric. 7 games with a run blocking grade of average or better. Pass blocking they came in at 84.1, which is poor. They would not have come in ranked higher than 24th overall anywhere as a unit. Darnell Wright was pretty good. Teven Jenkins did ok run blocking. Collectively, it all sucked.

So they were bad, but if we insist on blaming the mom hugger with nail polish whose numbers weren't really any different from Jayden Daniels', carry on wayward sons. Environment and situations matter. This isn't to say Caleb can improve, because he absolutely can, but the problems with the franchise in question are bigger than him. Jayden Daniels on the Bears yields similar results last year. Daniels was in a far better situation than Williams was because the new ownership went out and hired good people upstairs, in the coaching staff and brought in good players. The Commanders nailed it.

They need to retool the OL and retool Caleb. That starts with bringing in a guy like Rudolph based on the job he just did at Notre Dame. Joe is 52 and has never coached in the League. If he wants to, the time might be now for him regardless of whatever biases people have about Caleb Williams and don't want to admit.
But if a couple things went differently, this was a 12 win team!

One of those being drafting Jayden Daniels.
You think he would have been immune from The franchise that has basically ruined every QB they've touched since Sid Fucking Luckman?

Give dude the gold jacket now.

He's a better passer than Williams with a better deep ball, and way better pocket presence. CW going #1 overall as this can't miss prospect always baffled me, it was a narrative that formed towards the end of his freshman year and was never questioned.

Yeah and the context of those bulk numbers for CW are extremely deceiving. How much of his seemingly decent counting stat numbers are a function of him and the offense looking like shit for 2-3 quarters, falling behind 3+ scores, and then feasting on prevent defenses? I seem to remember numerous games where CW went into the half like 3/13 for 25 yards and ended up with like 200ish yards making it seem okay on the box score.

At the end of the day Driskell will defend any ND player as long as the players dad will be his snitch. This is clearly the case with Rocco
They did the same thing with Al Washington in the Justin Scott recruitment. They continuously talked about how Scott was a good kid (maybe his is, no idea) and how he was not a bag chaser and wouldn't leave the midwest when it was all said and done. Then he absolutely chased the bag to go to Miami, and the IB guys just kept beating their drum. They can't come off their opinions if it results in the kid not being exactly what they said he was.

There are multiple narratives around him that don't make sense to me either. For all of his faults, his 2023 and 2024 surroundings were not great. You see the shit show USC is now and then the Bears fired their OC and HC in midseason.

Very fair points. I don't know if the picks have been swapped what it all would have looked like. I just know that the Commanders made moves before and after drafting Daniels that were spot on. They nailed it, and the proof was in the results.

The Bears kept the coaching staff around that was eventually fired, they lost the locker room and what was at one point a promising season went to shit when they lost to the Commanders on the Hail Mary.

The Commanders ownership made moves and got just about all of them right. Chicago sports fans don't have much of a clue what that looks like. If they are interviewing Joe Rudolph, I take it as a good sign

Irish Envy ND fans surrounding The Gug doors.
I’m on campus. I’ll handle this.

I do think Daniels is better and will be better but who really knows what the next 5 years will bring. CW may be an all timer. I do enjoy poking a little fun at CW as Bear's fans get very defensive (understandably) about him.

Not every coach jumps at the opportunity to go to the NFL. Some like working with the younger kids and watch them develop. Some are more pragmatic. They may have their eye on the NFL, but want to make sure it's the right opportunity. The Bears have been a dumpster fire for a long time. That may not be attractive to Rudolph. I wouldn't be surprised if he called Harry to get his opinion and this is the reason they are saying he's not interested.

I will say that keeping Eberflus was a big blunder. In the same vein I think keeping y’all’s GM is also a bad move. Not a fan of having mismatched GMs and coaches unless the GM or coach are long standing great leaders.

Don't worry. Ohio State will just triple his salary so he stays. This is how athletics works.

MF didn’t fire Harry just to have his pick Rudy leave after two years. They’re tied at the hip now

Is there any evidence that ND's ability to recruit OL/have a good a OL depends on a particular coach? It doesn't seem like it does to me.

Not a flight tracker expert, but that plane instantly then departs OSU for somewhere else. Couldn’t they just need the plane and it’s currently in South Bend?

People have also found planes like every other day this week between the two, when we’ve known Rudolph is elsewhere lol. Maybe we use the same jet company?

A poster on 247 said he saw on an OSU site that Joe wasn’t on their list.

Pretty sure he linked the latest OSU 247 site article. However, he was wrong as that article has a link to their initial list the OSU site put out embedded in it and they do list Rudolph as an option if none of these latest options pan out. It’s hidden in this latest article, but they have a blurb that says something like if one of these candidates don’t work out, here’s our initial list etc.
