I don't know what's going to happen. What I do know, is if you bring someone else in to be DC, you're going to see a drop off in the defense for most of the year as the players learn new terminology, sets, adjustments, etc. If Mickens means keeping status quo, I'm all for it. The players already know the system and that gives Mickens time to adjust into the role.

Almost all coordinators are looking to advance their careers. The fact that we were able to help Golden get an NFL defensive coordinator job is only going to attract the best coordinators to ND. That is if we choose not to promote internally. Promotions like this is always good for the brand image

Did an amazing job here. Don't care what folks on the internet say about the NCG, you cant change your defensive identity in the course of a week. Sometimes the scheme:talent ratio is too much to overcome. Good luck Al.

Need to bounce back with a big hire.

Golden was fantastic here don’t understand his decision here. But it’s not my decision to make or question why he wanted to go back to the NFL.

I'd make Jalen Sneed the DC just to keep him at ND. Really don't want to lose that havoc and experience, especially with Kiser taking 60 snaps a game with him.

Diaco came back in 2013

He was there physically, but he knew he was in deep shit going forward. That 3-4 defense is contingent on having a stout NT in the middle that can eat up multiple blockers, and a heady MLB to be the QB of the defense. He failed to recruit replacements for Big Lou and Manti, and that's why he bolted for an awful job like UConn in 2014 when his stock was still decent.
