Loy is an outside person. He covered ND recruiting and left that beat over a year ago. He never covered the team. So whoever gave him his info was not from inside Notre Dame. The coaching staff, ISD, Irish Illustrated, all said repeatedly ND was not looking for a QB. It was always an outside source or "an insider on the boards".

I'm not a Loy hater. But if a QBs team reaches out to ND, it does not mean ND was interested. Even if thy tell Loy they are talking to ND.

You can say "A coordinated timed effort from 3 competing companies to issue statements is probably more evidence than anything we DID reach out to QBs." To me it's looks like they got sick of these rumors and saw it was getting out of hand so they put a stop to it.

Again, when we are looking at Colin Cowherd as a reliable source, we've gone way off the rails.

Dude... Loy said specifically that ND was "Big game hunting" for a QB, he was a doofus when he said it.

Cowherd is almost always wrong about everything.

SDSU DT in the portal who doesn't have the height measurable but is 310 lbs and is on the 2024 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List. Juco player who has had 55 tackles, including 8 1/2 sacks, for the Aztecs over the past two seasons.

So poor recruiting and poor transfer cycle?
Beyond WRs - which we’ve landed - and a couple DTs, it’s hard to assess our portal needs until we know what we’ll lose to the portal.
If we keep all our key players, we’re fine bringing in a small handful of guys. No need to blow things up just because we can.

Yes, Vandy's QB, Diego Pavia, sued stating that counting any Juco years towards a players 4 years of eligibility is wrong because it affects the players NIL earnings potential. He and now all Juco players can take advantage of a blanket waiver granted earlier this week (based in Pavia case) by the NCAA Division 1 BoD to former junior college players where any student athlete who spent at least a year of their college eligibility at the junior college level will be granted an extra year of eligibility at the D1 level. Kyle McCord may be looking to leverage the ruling in that the NCAA soon may be making another change to allow NCAA players a total of 5 years of eligibility regardless if 4 years are burned or not; he might lean on that this change is about to be passed; or, that he was forced to burn his freshman '21 season by being inserted into a late season game in garbage time that became his 5th game played that year. He might just get his 5th year yet. If he does get it, it will be interesting to see if he stays at Syracuse or not, assuming he graduates there by next Spring.

I feel like as a beat writer even acknowledging these accounts is a huge L.

Yeah, I just saw this and another handle posting similar information abut Ewers. Feels bogus, and honestly I hope it is. I feel like we can't keep taking these transfers every season, it's been 3 out of the last 4 years now. We've got the talent in house right now, it's time we use it. Time to roll with Carr, Minchey, or Angeli (That's personal preference of order). Those guys have paid their dues, need to roll with our guys at some point so recruiting doesn't take a hit. If you keep taking transfers, other schools will absolutely use it as negative recruiting and I can't see that helping the abysmal WR recruiting.

Ewers or Milroe could realistically come here and win the Heisman. That would be better for recruiting than starting a QB the staff clearly doesn't believe in (in the case that they took another transfer) just for the sake of starting one of our own.

NEW: On3's @SWiltfong_& @PeteNakos_ have logged predictions for Notre Dame to land Virginia transfer WR Malachi Fields. Fields recorded 1,619 yards and 10 TDs in the past 2 seasons. And supposedly our new nickelback ... 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗗: Alabama transfer CB Devonta Smith is transferring to the University of Notre Dame, he announced!

Angeli, Carr and Minchey have been here long enough. If the staff was looking outside again, it tells you one of two things.
1. The staff doesn't really believe in the QB's currently on the team and/or
2. The staff doesn't think Carr will heal sufficiently for next year.

Ask yourself if you believe one of these two is true.

Been out of town catching viruses at in-laws family Christmas. Did I miss anything exciting or just status quo?

My read with the latest updates:

1. ND was looking for a QB quietly. The last month had been complaining that the beat is too hush hush, with some fans getting it and other fans complaining like they lost their little lollipop.

2. Maybe they were going after someone but that person decided to go to NFL or stay at current school (Klubnick?). The 5 day declaration window closed yesterday after his loss to UT. Makes sense with the timing of the announcements.

3. Maybe it was actually Ewers but all of the clickbait accounts ran with the rumors, got picked up by nationally by Cowherd, and scared him off...OR Texas boosters got scared and gave him a huge new NIL deal. The UT boards were spending more time talking about Ewers transferring than the Peach Bowl

I’m interested in #3. The idea that they might fight to keep him would be significant. They have their Golden Boy ready to go.

This all makes sense to me as well.
The timing of everyone reporting "Notre Dame's not taking a portal QB" the morning after Klubnick's portal deadline is a little too convenient. He appears to be staying at Clemson. Fair.
As for Ewers, whether it's Texas or someone else we'll see, but I'd guess the bidding got to be more than we thought he was worth. Which again is fine, he's not THAT good.
Those seem like our two most plausible targets, and if neither work out, we've got good options in house. No need to force it.
