I can't think of another profession, where people would want a newbie with zero experience to get the job over someone who's produced at a decent level. I'm actually shocked to be honest. Let's risk starting out the season 0-2, that should be fun...but at least we could talk about how CJ or Kenny grew during the season. And the cherry on top would be us getting to have a ton of conversation about why Drayk Bowen is leaving for OSU
My guess is people are worried about the ramifications that come with doing it every single year. And, why can’t we coach up highly recruited QBs like other teams?!?

But at the end of the day, winning is all that matters and whatever way the coaches feel is best to do that, is what they should do.

I get it, my point is ND was up 30 most of the year and MF didn't give the next man up any meaningful reps. Keep bringing in QBs until one of the young kids push the transfer so hard they feel obligated to get them in the game.

I'll be the first to say, I don't wanna go into Miami with any of the QBs on our roster....and it's nothing more than not knowing what we got, and the team coming back is too good to take that gamble.

My thought on this is that we needed RL to get as many meaningful reps as possible to continue to progress and get ready for this year's playoff run

You have no idea what these guys could do. Assuming they would go 0-2 to start or 8-4 is just stupid. There have been many quarterbacks that came in and led their team to the playoffs with no college experience. Minchie and Carr were both very highly related rated QB out of high school. Just because they haven’t had a chance to play doesn’t mean they can’t leave the team. Either we knew what we were recruiting or we screwed up with our recruiting. At some point, we gotta trust who we brought in. If you don’t play them next year, do you draft another quarterback out of the portal in 2026 or do you go with Minchey or Carr who have been in the system for three years but still have very little game experience? At some point, you have to go with the quarterback you recruited or you need to stick with the portal every year. Then what is the point of recruiting a quarterback?

You really shouldn’t.

You’ll see amigo.
Thank you....I am all for ND not going after another rental QB.

Although DillonHall will be upset because we need a dual-threat difference maker at QB...someone give him a hug.

Let's roll with Angeli, Minchey, or Carr....but let's also enjoy what we have in front of us.

Go Irish!

The dude has done nothing but impressed every time he gets to play, but okay lol
He looked good when he got in against Purdue, it was 52-7 and he had 100 yards and 2 TDs. I have a feeling the def may not have had a ton of intensity but who knows. He also looked good against FSU when he got in....sure it was 45-3 but they had to still be trying super hard...right?

I trust this staff and if they say they want to keep their players focused and not distracted and keep things under wraps then I respect that.
Yep. I wouldn’t worry about a lack of portal news this week. I’d be more worried if there was a bunch of portal news this week, TBH.
The teams that are done playing meaningful football can talk about the portal. This week our entire program has one job.

Ok bro, read my post again. I’m open to Carr/Minchey starting because they have a lot of potential IMO. But they’re basically unknowns except to the coaching staff.

So if the coaching staff goes looking for a transfer QB, you’re basically saying you know better than they do about what’s on the roster. You don't see how stupid this sounds? What would your opinion be based on? High school highlights and recruiting rankings? To blindly say no to a transfer QB without knowing the options is mind blowing

If, on the other hand, the rumors are false, and the staff isn’t looking for a transfer, then that signals to me that they’re confident in Carr and/or Minchey to be a difference-maker. And I’d give them the benefit of the doubt if that’s what they decided. In my opinion, best case scenario is if they open up the competition with or without a transfer and Carr or Minchey wins.

Love Angeli but we aren’t a serious program if we expect to win a championship if he’s the QB. He’s good but not great. Takes way too many sacks isn’t a great runner and doesn’t throw the ball away when he should.
That's a good trivia question, has any QB ever been with a program for 3 years...played very little and then came in as the starter in year 4 and won a Natty?

But we’re a serious program when Leonard throws the ball 5-10 yards short to the other team?

He’s an amazing backup QB for this program. Sure, if we had Georgia or Ohio State-level talent around him, we could contend for a championship with him. But the only way we’re going to win it is with a difference-maker at QB like Clemson

People need to get the reality that if you aren’t good enough to be playing by year 2 then you shouldn’t be upset if ND brings in transfers at your position if you don’t like it move on or work your ass off harder. Freeman has done a good job of this everyone freaked out when we lost Flores James and Merriweather and none of them did much this year.

Agree, I believe in Angeli and if Freeman would've put Angeli in during the 4th quarter vs NIU, ND wins.
Agree with this statement, but it’s irrelevant in a world where you have to beat four tough teams at the end of the season to win the national championship
