Funny thing about that: ND is 10-1 ATS this year.

They’re 7-3, but still. Vegas loves when the public fades ND because they cover more often than not. Missed the Miami cover by the .5 hook, missed the Virginia cover because of the garbage time TD at the end. ND under Freeman has been one of the best ATS teams in the country (don’t look at the games they were 21+ pt favorites, those don’t count at all)

Army is a somewhat different animal than Navy these days. Navy has “modernized” their offense with shotgun and much more passing. Army is sticking with the old school option with the QB run and FB dive getting the lion’s share of their yardage.
Army is very physical and they are NOT small. Four of their five OLM are 310+. Curiously they are short, offense only has two guys over 6-1. Short OLM are not prized recruits in the pro style offense but they suit what Army is doing.
Army might be a better matchup for us than Navy. DT play will be key for us. They will run it between the tackles 50 times if we let them

They have consistently given up 250+ through the air. Gotta imagine ND has the dudes on the outside to expose their secondary.

Have a feeling Denbrock is going to put Army’s DC in a blender and just get real weird with breaking tendencies, chucking it everywhere, and then when they back off pop a big one with Price and Love

Don’t think Army has the personnel to play a lot of man in the secondary. So it’ll be on Riley to hit guys underneath. Hope the weather holds they’re saying it’ll rain Thrus and Fri and be ok Sat

This strategy would be playing right into Army's hands. We've looked horrible all year when we don't lean on the run game.

Can't have empty possessions. That's what helped us dominate Navy. That and 5 turnovers lol.

Still a good army drive would take 7-10 minutes off the clock. Win first down and score every possession

Win the toss, take the ball, score on the first drive. Score on the first two possessions and it's game over for the Cadets.

I remember when we beat West Virginia for the natty. All the talk was about how big WV's O-line was and how they would dominate the LOS. A&M's O-line was supposed to control the game in the opener this year. Army's O-line hasn't played a D-line that is as physical or as quick as Golden's.

A&M’s oline was absolutely not supposed to control the game by anyone’s predictions. That was the weak point of their team coming into the season and they were going up against what we thought was our best unit in the DL. A&M had and still has a very good dline. Both defensive lines were projected to control the game against questionable offensive lines.

Jamie U with essentially the same analysis as me. Army has put up some really sexy numbers all year….against one of the worst schedules in the country.

Win the toss, chuck it over their heads, make them play from behind, win by 30

I’d still defer. Why change your philosophy for one game? Besides, Golden’s D usually gives up first drive TDs before settling in so at best it’s 7-7 after one drive each. I’d rather see ND score before half & then get the ball to start 2H. JMO.

Thanks for sharing this. Question: What is F+?

They are 27th in F+, which is the highest ranked opponent for the Irish since they played Louisville.

Watched the Army/N Tex St game on tape yesterday. Pretty informative. Army could have easily lost if the other teams QB could’ve not kept throwing the ball right to Army’s DBs.No turnovers and we score in the 30’s and win easily. Army’s defense can tackle but can’t cover or rush the passer. We’ll be able to throw underneath as they play back I mean way back.
On offense it’s all about the QB Daily. He’s basically a 1960s tailback playing QB. Not fast but follows his blockers. Takes on tacklers. Old school. Has 30 TDs this year but would be a scout team guy at a top program.
They are really good at short yardage though. They’ll triple team a poor soul on the Dline and then both RBs will hit the same hole with the QB following. Impossible to stop. Get them in third and long or you’ll see that all day.
I’m sticking with my initial impression that Navy’s a tougher matchup but Army won’t turn it over so it’ll be closer.

Currently, the weather forecast for NY on Sat. at least appears to be dry. Other than the wind, it should be a fairly good night for football ...

Little story about Forrest Gump and that scene:

Senior year of high school our one English class had us watch it and analyze his storytelling. Now, I had already watched the movie numerous times, it's one I never get sick of. So we are watching the movie, and this scene happens, young Forrest grunts, and the lightbulb goes on in my head. I let out a large "OOOHHHHHH I GET IT NOW!" in the middle of class. The dozens of other times watching the movie, I just assumed this was a joke about Forrest being "dumb" and couldn't speak. But now, at 17 years old, in the middle of a Catholic high school classroom, I finally realized he was imitating the sex noises.

Anyway... Go Irish, Beat Knights!
