I think Miami and A&M have both finally found their guys. They certainly haven't been "top tier" jobs in the last decade for sure, but both are showing they're willing to heavily invest in their programs these days and any list of "sleeping giants" in today's NCAA has to start with them.

Remember, UGA certainly wasn't a Top 5 (and maybe not even a top 10) job before Kirby got there. Mark Richt had some great seasons, but they never truly threatened for a national championship during his tenure, which began the same year Miami won its last national championship.

We’ll see.

I have more confidence in Miami getting back to the top than A&M. It’s an easier road in the ACC and Cristobal’s an excellent recruiter. They also have more tradition of success to offer. But end of the day it’s a fickle fan base and the good vibes can come and go.

A&M? I dunno. I like Elko but there’s just something off in that program and has been for a long time. Maybe he can tune out the rich boosters who seem to run the place but in that program I tend to think the money is actually the problem. They try to buy their way to the top and it’s just not that simple.

Either way despite our challenges I think Notre Dame is better set up for sustainable success than either of those places. And that makes it a better job.

We'll see. Duke's 5-0 but their best wins are UNC by a point and Northwestern in double OT. Let's see how they do against Miami, SMU, NC State...
That said I agree. Elko's a good coach but I don't think he's God's gift to the profession or anything.

TAMU had that run in the 90s under RC Slocum but nobody has been able to replicate that for them. Franchione, Sherman, Sumlin and Jimbo all came after him. Prior to that, Jackie Sherrill gave them some goods times, but as it was with him those good times came at a cost.

They have a lot of ambition along with some pre and in game traditions but winning really isn't anything they've been able to enjoy.

You don't think that might have something to do with the foundation Elko laid down? And/or them finally removing the handcuffs at the QB position?

Last year Elko started off 4-0, lost to ND. The year before it was 3-0, lost to Kansas.

Too many teams still play soft schedules in September. Very hard to judge anyone.

LOL their best win is against a UNC team coming off a week where James Madison hung 70 on them.

Do not get roped into the Manny Diaz Kool-Aid. His teams are soft and he's not a good coach.

Ah, ok. I'm inclined to agree. To this point he's proven to be a better DC than HC, at least recently. Things did not go well for him at Texas, but that was the beginning of the end for the Mack Brown Era anyway.

He may yet have his career back on track after his DC stint with Coach No Show at PSU. Wondering now what his end game is in terms of parlaying any success at Duke into another gig. He's an FSU alum.

My gut feel is that Duke fades by the end of the year. Maybe they get to 7-8 wins; not sure they can maintain the close calls they've been involved in, though.

Once this year is past, I fully expect his teams to get worse. His Miami teams were undisciplined, small, and mentally unprepared. I imagine the same thing will happen in Raleigh.

I guess it depends on your definition of fat……with almost 70% of the US population considered overweight and 40% obese……fat is pretty variable these days 🤣
