The uniforms look awesome with one huge exception: why are they unable to contain a shoulder pad?
It looks ridiculous when the whole team is disheveled after one play.
I think the exposed pads are more aerodynamic and create lift as the player is running down the field.

I've been impressed with his pass blocking, but he needs to improve in the run game. Not saying I don't think he can, but ND has predominantly been running plays to the right side.

Hot take: Knapp is a really good freshman LT but should never be the solution to a championship aspiring ND team!
As a freshman, yes. He may be the solution long term for a championship aspiring ND team.

It’s tough that we are in the bind of lack of tackles that he has to start at LT as a true freshman. We were hit hard with injuries, but we were thin at tackle to begin with (remember all spring where we were concerned with RT?). Knapp has loads of potential but almost anyone in his position would struggle at times. Hopefully he keeps progressing as the season continues, the hardest DLines of the regular season are likely behind him at this point.

NDs OL next year should be really fucking good. Like Joe Moore award caliber, especially if Jagusah is as good as we think he can be. So many guys that are going to play on Sundays in the rotation.

As for the run game, has anyone looked at the position next to him?

How hard is it for a true freshman LT to get comfortable in combo blocks, pin & pull, etc… when the Guard next to him keeps changing & the starter was also a first timer?

And of course ND is running right all season. That’s where Schrauth and Wagoner were.

And I’m guessing it’s probably even harder to run block when the other team knows you can’t throw a forward pass & run blitzes every play.

Room to improve for Knapp to be sure, but the tackle on the left side wasn’t why we were running right. The guard on the right side had a lot to do with it.

I want to get through October first and not have any additional defections from the roster or injuries, but it really would appear that this end of the business knows WTF they're doing.

I was a little down on Rudolph in his first season but I’ve done a 180. I think he’s killing it now.

Weren't there reports that Jagusah is probably better-suited for guard? Or am I making that up?

If that's the case, do we think Knapp holds down LT next season, or that CJ gets the first look to win back the position following his injury?

Imo, the future is lambert, jagusah, craig, billy, wagner. Which is crazy bc this year‘s left side would be on bench next year

I think, and I could be wrong, Lambert has never played LT & the plan was always for him to be the future at RT.
I think ND loves Jagusah at LT, and wanted Lambert at RT.
I bet they plan on having Jagusah at LT, Wagoner at RT, then follow that with Will Black at LT & Lambert at RT.
Think about that pairing? Black & Lambert in a few years will average 6’7.5 & 320lbs with long arms & crazy athleticism.
And Knapp will move over to Center & be a beast.
Now if you want your best 5 on the field next year it would be hard to bench Wagoner with how well he has played.
But what do you do about Lambert and Jagusah? I don’t see them moving Lambert over to LT for a year, just to move him back to RT after Wagoner leaves & Black shows up.

It is a good problem to have!

I'm just not sure why everyone is just desperate to move him inside to guard/center next year.

He's been really good as a true freshman in the LT role. Best case scenario if Jagusah is slated there next year is he's...just a tad better than Knapp?

I'd keep him at LT and let the rest of the positions figure themselves out.

Reports on Jagusah weren't always glowing from practice reports. I don't think he's guaranteed to have the starting left tackle spot. Also, Prister and other media believe he's best suited for guard. I think we don't give Knapp enough credit. He's played really well all things considered. He's only going to get better. I think Lambert could push for a tackle spot as well - his upside is enormous.

You think Rocco transfers? I believe he has a redshirt year. There will have to be transfers along the offensive line.

Coogan will be a Captain & play somewhere next year.
The coaches love him & talk about how he is the leader of the offense.
He just steps in and helps anywhere & everywhere they need him, & never complains, even when passed over.
He’s the one who gets in everyone’s face when needed. Pure leader.
