Guess we’ll see. Hope they’re both wrong on it. Just kinda stinks at this point in the cycle. The advent of the portal helps but dang… it still stings a bit.
It stings for sure, but the first time I laid eyes on him...I though "that's not an ND kid" I never thought for a second he was gonna end up Irish.

It was BKs great run from 2018-2021 that allowed Freemans personality and approach to come in and recruit well… then 2 bad/average seasons in a row due to poor coaching and recruiting is struggling
Dude Auburn lost to fucking New Mexico State last year at home by 3 touchdowns…

Idk if I ever felt like that for the same reason. My rationale for him not coming (especially after the B/G game) was this dude is not going to be content with chilling behind CJ, the heir apparent.

It’s not really copium. If he came here he wasn’t going to pass CJ and would’ve transferred anyway.

Bingo...fwiw I've ALWAYS been able to tell. Those athletes that help UGA, Bama, Ole Miss, OSU...they are never coming to ND. Ever. ND lands the Estimes, Hamilton, Ben Mo's, Julian Loves. And we are gonna need to catch lightning in a bottle like KSU almost did in 2012 or TCU a few years back. It's coming and I have so much faith!

Oh absolutely was never gonna start here. Would have had to battle adversity and compete. Can’t run from high school to high school and bag to bag and expect an nfl paycheck. He sees adversity and runs to hide in mommy’s skirt. Be shocked if this doesn’t go pretty much exactly the Blake Barnett formula. Was just hoping big early commitment from big name= WR profit. Once it did not and became clear his not actually committed was a big part of it..then he had no utility and was just an obvious future liability/embarrassment.

Just wild how quickly he flipped from NDs #1 cheerleader on social media to another school. Makes me think it was heavily forced by the staff, because he certainly didn’t get any results behind the scenes with recruiting anyone else.

I’ll wait until NSD to judge the class.

We see it the most at WR...Floyd, Tate, Shark, Boykin and Claypool. I can't remember one time that ND landed a swaggalicious WR. Rocket had swag, but dude was a sweetheart...lolol

I also not sure if you scramble to find a tier down qb you think may never play this late in the cycle bc it is probably way too late for the usual pied piper effect

It's always going to be somebody. Auburn, USC, etc. We won't match up front money. Teams know that and when they need a great player, they know to hit up a Notre Dame recruit or commit.

It was the same thing for coaches.

Once you start knocking this stuff back, it will slow down.

Exactly… ND and freeman are losing knight to that coach and team. Tells you a lot about what freeman is doing/leading regarding recruiting
Is it or is it not about winning games then? That was your original point that our “average/poor seasons” is hurting us?

We’ve won 10 games every single year since 2017 except 2022 that was Freeman’s first year ever as a head coach? There's nothing “average”about accomplishing that.

I will bet almost anything this is more to do with CJ Carr in front of him and no clear path to playing. Along with him being from the south and having immense pressure to stay down south from those in his life than anything else.

If he cared about mediocre seasons, which ND is not having, then he sure as hell isn’t going to Auburn.

To close, if his parents actually think Hugh Freeze is going to develop their son into a better QB and man than Mike Denbrock would, then good luck to them and Deuce.

I truly think ND loses because they make the kids get an education. Auburn does not and if you ever read about James Brooks...it sounds like it's been that way forever.

And once everyone started playing on TV, they lost their edge. But the good news is, they built one hell of a reputation over that 100 years that kept them from being Harvard, Yale, or even Stanford and Northwestern

Thank goodness for Carr who's smart enough, and his family, to not just chase the bag and play for an awful program and scumbag coach. Freeze will end up banging another hooker before too long.

Yep, as everyone else has said, this is just a ridiculously bad time in ND recruiting. Not sure if I've ever seen anything like it, Taylor flips, 0-3 on WRs, Deuce flips (a near certainty at this point). I don't think this is a Freeman, Kelly or Willingham thing, I think it's just unlikely ND will ever recruit at a high level consistently. Charlie Weis was the closest thing to elite recruiting, and he recruited one side of the ball far better (not that different from current recruiting) and didn't know what to do with all the talent he reeled in. Plus, the main reason Weis got talent was due to the household name he built at New England. I do think Freeman is going to have to borrow Kelly's "shop down a different aisle" philosophy, but only to a certain extent. Deuce, as others have mentioned, was never a fit in NDs culture, and his philosophy of "it's all business" was a red flag in hindsight. I think Grubbs is more likely to stick based on his fit with the culture and attitude, the staff is going to have to do a better job at identifying "ND guys", even if it means turning down elite recruits. Just save us all the embarrassment of watching them dump ND at the altar, for a team like Auburn no less. Other teams have to be looking at ND rn and thinking they can just waltz in and take whoever they want, whenever they want

😂 I’m not too sure why you’re taking a shot at the university. I believe Auburn has a better winning percentage than we do in the past 45 or so years. We’re tied with NCs, too. And we don’t have to compete with Alabama in our own state.

Freeze? Yeah, he’s a sleaze, though.

When it was a far off decision, I'm guessing picking ND seemed like a unique/interesting choice to Knight

But as his senior year etched closer, reality started to sink in and I think he slowly over the summer started to get cold feet about actually going so far from home to school

Once ND did not get Meadows or any other recruits of note over the summer, things likely really started to cool for ND with Knight. His tweet to Taylor when he decommited seems prophetic at this point and was likely mentally the beginning of the end for Knight in his own mind

I'm sure Auburn is throwing some money at him but I'm guessing ND could/would match

People usually make their decisions off emotion/gut and justify it after the fact

I just think he's a southern kid that doesn't want to stray far from home

But that doesn't alleviate ND/Freeman from this. As with Moore/Keeley/Bowen/Taylor--have to be better at reading tea leaves/between the lines and sussing these guys out

My unsolicited advice: Stop bothering trying to pull top 50 kids out of the south. Its just not worth the time/effort. Even prior to Freeman, there's a laundry list of southern guys that ended up flaking whether that be by decommitting or transferring later on

And if you do continue to go after them, don't bother accepting a commitment from them until Signing Day. Just puts a target on your back from every other school and they eventually end up wanting to peek around anyways. And by then you're just the old boring toy to them.

The sky isn’t falling and this can be a good learning lesson for the staff. It’s tough to pluck kids out of certain regions. That said, if you’re going down the south and you absolutely should, it may make more sense to focus on more major metropolitan regions (Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, New Orleans, Tampa, Jacksonville, Houston, Dallas) than Lucedale, Mississippi.

I think getting an education in case football doesn't pan out is not as compelling in the face of guaranteed NIL money. If Deuce flames out he will still have whatever Auburn actually pays him (versus what they promise him) without having to step foot in the classroom. Guarantee the Auburn coaches are telling him why waste your time going to school. Unregulated NIL and the transfer portal is stupid.
