Thank goodness this isnt during the Pyne qb room days. Our qb recruiting has been stellar lately and our qb room is stacked. I’m not too worried about Duece honestly

The belief that his recruiting prowess would take ND to the next level was the whole reason ND hired him and his main selling point

If he wasn't going to be able to deliver the goods in recruiting--what then was he bringing to the table as a head coach with ZERO previous experience?--serious question, I'll wait
Because he can bench press 315

What’s the story with Matt Zollers? He had offers from Duke and BC and chose Missouri. PA kid. Looks pretty good. Chose Mizzou over Georgia and Penn State.

Pretty sure Missouri is playing big boy NIL game right now so that's probably part of it. Zollers is really talented. His worst attribute is that he's not Deuce Knight.

Reading all the tea leaves it sounds like we are playing big boy NIL too for the elite talent. Sounds like they were will to dish out alot of guys like Meadows and Minchey. But they are being selective about it, "not overpaying for Hines." From all the information I've gathered this off-season they are dishing out for elite 5 star talent but saving the rest for proven transfer portal kids.

Yes, just eyeballing the rankings, he feels like one we could get in on. Mizzou has produced some QBs - and yes throws around NIL right now - but generally speaking they're pretty mid. Of course we're about to lose our QB to flippin' Auburn so who knows anymore.

I have a tough time believing Zollers actually signs with Mizzou, even with all the NIL promises he made him. Just a weird choice (Kinda like an elite QB from the deep south choosing ND). ND is the 2nd most popular team in the Philly suburbs, he'd defintely would be my #1 flip target.

Would feel better if he was at Malvern Prep

I'm trying to catch up but can someone give me the update? Is he all but gone, or is it just a bunch of chicken littles?

*Not sure I can recall Jack Swarbick saying anything about recruiting prowess and that notion of an idea was from fans/media stating it....NOT as a fact

*CONTINUITY
"Once word circulated that Freeman was going to be the coach, the valued assistants rallied around the program, making their intentions known.

The first assistant to announce his intention to stay was Director of Performance coach Matt Balis, who said in a video to the Notre Dame players that he “wanted to die here.”

On Wednesday night, at the Guglielmino, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees told a group of players that Notre Dame was “where his heart was” and that “for the guys that are coming back, let’s go win a -———- national championship at Notre Dame.” Kelly had reportedly made an offer to Rees.

Shortly after that defensive line coach Mike Elston, who had been with Kelly since 2004, tweeted, “Notre Dame is home!! 12 years and counting. Let’s ride fellas.”

Other assistants, like running backs coach Lance Taylor, cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens, tight ends coach John McNulty and safeties coach Chris O’Leary are all staying as well."

* ALSO at the time, had either Michigan, Cincinnati, Alabama or Oklahoma State lost their conference game there was a real possibility of ND getting into playoff..."Playoff chairman Gary Barta indicated that part of the committee’s evaluation includes whether the team in question has a head coach — a bizarre circumstance put in motion by Kelly’s decision to leave the 11-1 Irish two days after the regular season ended."*continuity was #1

*Swarbick also knew BK had offered Freeman to be the highest paid DEF coordinator and had to make a quick decision

I lived in South Bend area for 4 years. I never once felt “unsafe”. I only ventured south of Eddy St a few times and it wasn’t a place I’d walk alone at midnight, but why would most students do so anyways? Mishawaka, Granger, Notre Dame and Southwest Michigan were all extremely safe feeling.

Go about three blocks west of the Morris PAC and tell me how safe you feel.

Why would I? I’ve been there. I just don’t see what the draw is.

When I was a kid (80’s) you wouldn’t even want to be where Eddy St is. It’s improved a lot and seems to be continuing to do so. But I don’t see the draw to go south of Trader Joe’s. Unless you need to go to the ER. Even then I’d head to Mishawaka.

Most of the problem is between downtown south bend and the airport. It’s like any “bigger” city. There will always be a section close to downtown that is just shit. Makes sense why my coach bestie moved to Granger.
