on defense we need a true safety and a DE.

were losing Nana and JBB and have added Oben.

would really like to see a high quality OT for the offense and maybe one more WR

Need an OT more than anything. We have all the freshman that redshirted to plan DE and Freshman coming in.

At DE, you'd take Keeley but no one else IMO. We have a stock pile of DL now with Mills and Cross back. If you take one more starter level guy, we're getting transfers out and other than Junior T, I wouldn't be ok losing one of the potential vipers among:

Botehlo, Burnham, Bounacar, Aiden G. Using portal and losing talented underclassmen is a fine line and IMO we're perfectly on that line with vipers.

I think ISD said something about Jalen McMillan Monday. Felt very like a "oh we shouldnt have said that" moment

The the consensus on the beat has been consistent that the staff is looking to add ten guys from the portal. We already added 6 so 4 more.
I believe that is 1 more stud WR, S as a depth piece, DE and an OT.
I know a few mentioned TE and LB but I feel like our depth at both those areas are solid.

I dont think it needs to be a starter. Someone like Nana - experienced and solid that can give you solid backup snaps and start if injury bug hits.

I'd bet by January they only add 1 or 2 more then use the Spring window to add an additional 1 or 2.

the spring window is super short, not sure much will come of that

Correct me if I am wrong but the shorter window is just for player entry. Recruiting, visits, etc will mostly take place out of the window so don't think the shorter window will impact player acquisition too significantly.

I’m probably missing someone but the two undergraduate transfer ins I can think of are Brandon Joseph and Riley Leonard. Obviously both from comparable academic institutions to ND. Anyone know what the cutoff is for this? Where they draw the line between good enough credits from Ivy’ish U vs no chance bottom of the heap state U?

Having transferred once myself, I think the issue is that ND doesn't accept credits for filler classes like "fitness" or "personal finance." If you go to a large state school and are essentially majoring in football then it's probably pretty tempting to take their filler classes to meet your credit hours requirements but not actually progress toward a degree.

Which is how Stetson Bennett spends 6 years in college and never graduates.

You hear about guys who go to Random State U who have a 3.9 engineering major and they might be able to qualify, but I'd guess most guys won't go through the process when 40 other schools are calling. The guys with general studies majors won't get accepted, and guys like the previous example are rare cases.

so the skuttlebutt here is that Dillion Gabriel convinced Green to enter the portal with a promise of a bag if he went to Oregon with him. OU fans are butthurt is an understatement

That’d be a change since all I hear is how well the Dillon Gabriel situation played out. ou and Gabriel benefited together and both sides knew that after this year, it’s Jackson’s time. Take them all, Gabe!
