Good recruiter? What about Clay Helton as OC? Good experience, good recruiter, currently unemployed (or at Georgia Southern).

I’d love to see our bruising 230 lb wrecking ball of a running back take a handoff with some momentum going after the qb takes the snap from under center. Guess I’m just old fashioned though.
Marcus needs to hire an OC to basically do what Golden has done defensively and Marcus needs to get the hell out of the way. A guy like Moorehead or Chryst could definitely fit that bill.
Yes. Yes I am. Almost like it’s a great way to set up the play action we’ve been looking for instead of your running back taking a handoff from a dead stop in shotgun. So yes, I am serious. Are you serious? ND is running the ball something like 99.99% Hartman goes under center. It's the most predictable shit.
1. Moorhead absolutely has run a version of that offense.1. Moorhead is not running the offense you describe.
2. If Freeman hires Chryst, I'm done with him. It would be a catastrophic hire the likes of which Freeman would simply not survive.
We're not Wisconsin. We should not aspire to be Wisconsin. And if Freeman thinks that's the way to take the next step up and actually compete in the playoffs, it would be the final straw for me that he doesn't know what he's doing and isn't ready for the spotlight.
Which makes it even more maddening that they're not running PA more. This reminds me of the Kevin Rodgers days where you could just sit there and call the play over and over again. Greg Flammang had some nice Twitter breakdowns yesterday and one of them was the PA call to Staes. It's clear defenses don't think we're passing at all when in a running formation. Hartman had Flores and Staes open that play, but had to dump it to Staes because of the pressure in his face. Staes needs to break the tackle and he potentially scores. Are you serious? The reason a handoff in the backfield can be so lethal is it allows the QB to keep his eyes on the D and decide to run or even pass, or heck PA. We don't do any of them based on what the D gives us. The bad call is the bad call.Yes. Yes I am. Almost like it’s a great way to set up the play action we’ve been looking for instead of your running back taking a handoff from a dead stop in shotgun. 2. I’m not saying he *should* hire Moorhead or Chryst, but there are qualified OCs out there that could run the scheme he desires at a high level.
We don’t need to run some air-raid/spread/basketball-on-grass offense to compete for championships.
Michigan is running that offense. If you hired a coordinator who actually knows how to run the offense, it can be successful. We aren’t successful because we hired a guy with not only no experience in that offensive philosophy, but no experience period. We basically hired a doctor fresh out of his clinical rotation where he specialized in podiatry to try and execute open heart surgery. Just as that is medical malpractice, this has been football malpractice.
But, it’s asinine to say that offense can’t be successful when it literally is currently being successful just one hundred miles north and east of ND. We can hate Harbaugh—and I do—but his O at Michigan is humming right now. You can RTDB and also be creative in it and have a downfield passing game. They aren’t mutually exclusive. You just have to have an OC who can design and implement it.
Yep, the best offenses that can show up every week, like you said are NOT air Raid. They are the OSU, Georgia, Bama teams that can run and throw it really well, preferably with a QB with good mobility. I think OSU will get beat either by UM or in CFP somewhat easily due to not having a QB that moves well.I don't think anyone wants an Air Raid type offense. I just want an offense that works, and doesn't look broken against good teams.
I think a commitment to "RTDB" means Freeman has his heart in the right place, but limits us in finding the right coordinator. And if it comes down to a retread like Chryst, or a "basketball on grass" guy, I'm taking the latter, because the former clearly isn't working.
I rarely watch NFL but was watching Eagles vs Cowboys Sunday. Dallas lined up in a quasi-Jumbo package w/ no receivers out wide. If ND did that, the opposing D would have all 11 in the box. Philly remained in a relative base D in regards to the secondary b/c they respected Dallas’ ability to pass out of that formation."It's clear defenses don't think we're passing at all when in a running formation."
We're not! Ever! That's what's driving me crazy! We ran two play action passes on Saturday. TWO!
Yes! That’s a play where you’d rather have your QB in pistol so they can run RPO. If QB sees interior OL getting blown up he can keep the ball and roll out w/ play action.Sorry, didn't mean to target your post. My frustration is that we DO run the ball out from under center. Every single time. And every team we play knows it, so they crash the box, and it usually results in a tackle for loss.
Rinse. Repeat. Fail again.
It’s the same w/ possible QB transfers. ND fans assume Michael Pratt‘s dream scenario is following in Sam Hartman’s shoes instead of going to a school from his homes state like Miami or out to Oregon to follow in a much more successful scenario for grad-transfer QBs.Some of these OC choices range from delusional to complete desperation. JFC.
I'd love to have Moorhead, but so would a lot of other people. He reportedly turned down Saban and the Baltimore Ravens, among others. Hard to tell what he might be waiting on. I love the passing attack and I think with these young WR ND has and will have coming in Moorhead could stick with the running attack Freeman wants while opening things up downfield, which only opens up the run game more. He's an experienced guy who has been a head coach on what is now his third stop. That's what Freeman needs at OC, as we've been saying now all season.
Akron is 124th in rushing offense right now, however. They're 101st in passing offense, where they've really taken a step back. 2-10 last year, currently sitting at 2-7. Based on what he was making as OC at Oregon, what does it take to get him to ND, $2M a year?
Someone asked that on II pod. O’Malley’s answer was to respond w/ the average yards & points put up over the season. In other words, mislead them into thinking the ND offense was highly productive despite the facts that those pts/yds were racked up against tomato cans &/or scores by the D.Why would any grad transfer worth a darn want to come to ND and play in this current system? It's not like there wouldn't be competitive NIL offers for the best of them plus those schools would also be offering a competent OC.

Kotelnicki from Kansas. Not sure if he's just running Leipold's offense similar to how Weis Jr runs Kiffin's but Kansas' offense is fun.
I wouldn't keep checking for the Parker firing until after the season...Do we have an update on porker getting canned yet? Every time I come to this site I’m hoping to see a new thread addressing it. When this moment eventually arrives someone needs to start a new thread so I don’t have to look for the good news.
Do we think he gets a new gig somewhere else? Certainly not an OC one. That will never happen again. Will his buyout allow him to retire? I hope not. He didn’t earn it or deserve it. Then again neither did Charlie.

I don't know if he'll be dismissed or not, but word on the street is that Gino will be the primary play caller for the last two games. There are to many people on this site that have inside knowledge. If something was brewing there some posters that would say so.
He is on my list, a MN guy, can't go wrong! also from his Wiki
"During the season, Kotelnicki was nominated for the Broyles Award.[7] After the season, he signed a contract extension through the 2027 season that also raised his yearly salary from $500,000 per year to $1 million per year."
