Makes you wonder about Braylon James of he can’t pass up Tobias. Damn
James is a freshman. If they're both still in the program come spring, I'm putting my money on this situation changing.

He's going to have opportunities this spring and summer to get into the two deep.

The play you guys are talking about I thought it was a penalty or something and the play had stopped.

I bet Merriweather balances well on one for at the line though.

I am stumped about Merriweather, I am stumped about the whole WR group, I am stumped abut Stuckey.

ND gets the best QB in the transfer portal and I thought it would benefit Merriweather & the whole WR group.

I feel that every WR that has played this season was given a chance to step up to be the #1 WR and no one has stepped up including Merriweather.

Sad to say, but ND doesn't have an answer at WR.

Almost everyone did. I remember Jamie U and Flamang talking about 800 yards for him being the expectation. He is atrocious except for allegedly being good at run blocking.
Irish Illustrated did not.

I thought it was so conflicting hearing tim and Tim talk about how bad Tobias looked. Like, very negative.

While everyone else was somewhere between optimistic and excited.

Expected something more from him. Had no ambitions of an All-American level type of season, or even a solid year, but still expected more than this.

He blocks his ass off, but that's really about it.

Right up there with the "War Daddy" Parker people before the season even started
To be fair I think most of the War Daddy stuff was tongue in cheek. No one actually expected Parker to be some brilliant tactician. At best he'd benefit from an offense with more weapons than a defense could possibly hope to account for (ha).
Expectations for Tobias were real.

I don't know, I think a lot of people saw practice videos and thought he was the real deal. Either way, cringey tags like War Daddy and Gangsta are the surefire kiss of death

I think we all foolishly assumed Hartman’s experience would cover up any warts Parker had to work out as new OC. In other words, he would get benefit of doubt this season b/c…after all…he had benefit of the ACC all-time passing leader. Next year would be his true assessment (well depending on QB situation) so maybe he did ND a favor by shitting the bed earlier than expected?

I think people made a lot of assumptions about Hartman too based on his ACC lifetime stats. Lets be real here, he played 4 full seasons over 5 years when you add up the games. Most great QBs are gone after 3 years and most of those don't start as true freshmen. That's going to inflate the career stats a bit. His Junior and Senior years were pretty good, not taking that away. He was also coming in and learning a new system here with no guarantee he would succeed.

I'm not pinning any of this on Hartman, this is really all on Parker and the ND Admin for dropping the ball in the OC search. 2 PA passes on 36 dropbacks or something yesterday, and that's Sam's strength. We had something like 3 designed RB runs 2nd half. Other than the INT return to the 2 yard line, only one drive was successful in the 2nd half. That's pathetic.

Great post & spot on in the bold. This season should've been less challenging for Parker especially with Hartman's experience. My complaint with Merriweather is he is used most of the time as a deep threat guy, I would've like to see him get used as an all around WR, and get him developed as a possible #1 WR especially for 2024.

I think how Hartman has played lately is mostly due to Parker's play calling, Stuckey has done a good job with the WR group especially long term with what Del left us with, and the injury bug to the WR has hurt ND.

I was expecting next season to be challenging for Parker.

Merriweather looks like a track guy trying to learn how to play football. He seems to lack instincts and the ability to run a variety of routes. Stuckey's coaching chops will be tested trying to develop these skills in him. Very raw player.

He has nearly two full seasons under Stuckey’s tutelage. Merriweather is just not it or is not being coached effectively. The ineffectiveness of the WR room as a whole suggests coaching to my eye. Almost none of them play with much urgency and seem unwilling or unable to make contested catches, and their routes seem undisciplined. Looks a lot like last year. Good recruiters don’t always make good developers of talent.

I get it. We are all playing Monday Morning QB in that respect. But I don’t recall anyone questioning the Hartman signing earlier this season. We was a fanbase were thrilled & relieved. We finally added the key missing ingredient. A big time gunslinger who wasn’t a runner but mobile enough to be dangerous. Plus, looked what he did at tiny WF w/ bad OL, no run game & bad defense?

He committed when Rees was OC. Wonder if he thought about following him to T-town? We’ll never know but I suspect his record would be better than 7-3 and he wouldn’t be struggling in that system w/ that talent around him like he is here.

Absolutely not. That is not fair to Lenzy at all. He busted his butt and tried. He didn’t have a qb who could get him the ball. Merriweather is probably the most lackadaisical wide receiver I can remember in 30 years
His first couple of years, he was definitely being dogged on for his effort and for constantly showing up the QBs.

However, he absolutely turned into a hard working WR and leader. Perhaps TM will also turn it around next year.
