Ironic because it was after the supposed injury vs CMU that he had the legendary 4th down pickup vs Duke.

But the epic 4th and limp vs OSU came after CMU... I don't think he had a choice but to succeed vs Duke

Tim O’Malley of II believes Hartman has been playing hurt. I’ve heard speculation on other pods as well. Hopefully the bye week did him some good. Maybe it’s just coincidence but he hasn’t been the same passing-wise since that CMU DL blew up Spindler and rolled Sam’s ankle.
Probably why he’s been a bit more antsy in the pocket recently. He’s always operated in a pocket of chaos within the slow mesh offense at wake and since CMU just seems off.

Why is he hesitating so much this year
I would think it's because every time he throws a contested ball where the WR isn't wide open it's either incomplete or intercepted. Tyree's catch vs pitt might be the only contested catch i remember a WR making vs any of the power 5 teams we've played. He's thrown 2 balls that weren't great to Rico that should never have been picked but they were due to poor WR effort/adjustment. Thomas and greathouse injuries have not helped as well.

Mixture of the offensive line regressing (played better against PITT) and not having healthy, play-making WRs at his arsenal... and his offensive coordinator should be calling plays for Saint Joseph High School.

He is in a completely different system asked to do way different things then at wake running the slow mesh. If he came into the same exact system I could see where there would be no learning curve but this is a drastically different offense

I mean, did you see his line at Wake?
I don't think that's causing hesitation

I thought he played very well against Pitt outside of the tipped interception. How many of our QB's over the last 15 years are making that throw to Tyree?

It’s pretty evident to me that he’s being coached and directed to play it safe. The coaches constantly reiterate how their philosophy is to not turn the ball over and I’m sure they’re telling Hartman that if he’s unsure to just hold it or check down.

It’s likely that our defense being so great plays into that too and makes them lean into the message even more. As long as we don’t give a game away with turnovers we should be in every game we play.

His line at Wake helped produce 36 points per game last season (17th in the country).
Stats don't tell the whole truth... what was the Def doing? If they aren't stopping the offense, then he's getting more opportunities to put up points

For someone who (I agree) is playing it safe, he rarely throws it away. Which I respect. The style of offense we play does not fare well with wasted downs. He's trying to make a positive play, without making a costly mistake.

LMFAO whattt??
Do you understand how bad the line was?
Go look up the stats brother.
Check out the sacks, pressures, hits and RB averages....

Hartman (and their aggressiveness) put up 36 despite the O-line lol

True or False? Wake Forest utilized Sam Hartman way more than Notre Dame has?

In a way, a bit settling that Sam does have some real issues at QB but we're still dominating, even with Porker. Maybe the ceiling for Porker can go higher, IDK. I still want him gone but don't expect that.

Because they had to. Their OL & running game was negligible. He did have a better WR corps as well. I’d love if he could match his 2022 performance vs Clemson this Saturday but that’s a tall order based on what we’ve seen this year w/ the WR corps.

"Dominating" is a generous way to describe our offensive performance the last several games.

Should clarify, WE are dominating as a whole, certainly not the offense. I'm reaching for optimism here with Porker lol. If Sam kind of sucks at times, it means Porker is handicapped to a degree. Perhaps with a Pratt, Porker has a lot more to offer.. it's wishful thinking that I don't really believe, but it's possible

I think Wake knew they weren't going to march methodically down the field vs good defenses, not even close, so they took a ton of shots and constantly had to look for explosives.

The way ND is getting defended there's explosives there all game. You don't need to scheme a play to get any of our wrs 1-1.

If you look at Hartman's stats, his completion percentage, yards per attempt and QB rating are all at career highs this season. His TD/INT ratio is same or better than prior years. He's just throwing the ball half as often as he did at Wake.

This years numbers are inflated due to the first 4 games of the year. He was so frichan efficient throwing the ball with explosives. Not so much the last 5 games, not even close. I/we knew he wouldn't maintain his first 4 game rate, but I never thought he'd drop off this far in rating/efficiency.

I hope he replicates his game against Clemson from last year. Just with a team win as the result instead of a loss.
