The strangest thing I have seen is neither of the big (2) recruiting sites have a story listed under his profile about this subject....usually stuff like this appears there. I can never read it but there is still a headline...what gives? I think the only truth is he is having doubts...cold feet...if I was CW I would spend the night in a tent in his front yard till he felt better....

If I were Corwin I would schedule a 2012 ND recruiting class field trip to Omar's house for Jan 13th to welcome him back to his HOME and FAMILY on January 13th upon his return from the BBQ in Gainesville

I think you would be a hell of a recruiter. Could you coach an Oline?

ND=NC thanks for the compliment. I was a WR/DB but my Dad is regarded as one of the best high school OL coaches in the county...

He played divison 2 football at Lock Haven in college. They won the conference title his senior year. He was an all-conference guard at 6'1'' 185 pounds. Coached for a few seasons at IUP in western PA, met my mom there, and then moved to eastern PA and took over the program at my high school for 20 years.

Berks County, which is about an hour and a half from Dover...small high school (Reading Central Catholic). They just sent a TE to Delaware last year and their junior TB this year already has offers from WVU, Louisville, and Pitt. My dad was HC from 1984 to 1991 and then OL and OC from 1997-2004. Had offers to coach at a couple D2 and D3 schools but had no interest.

RCC is quite a good program. I'm a Lancaster Catholic alumnus. Sorry bout the threadjack.

Yeah sorry to turn the attention of this thread away from Omar

Piyachi...RCC is nowhere near as good a program as LCHS. RCC is much better known for its bball program. Our two schools had a great Berks/Lancaster Catholic school non-league rivalry in the late 90s and up until about '04/05.

I really haven't been following this situation as well as I wish, but something here does not make sense. As much as we hate to admit it, Urban is a fairly smart (though unethical) coach. He knows Charlie's policy on recruiting and it seems to me if there was any truth to this, Urban would have his people screaming from the rooftops "OMAR IS COMING!...OMAR IS COMING!" This might have Charlie pull the scolly and Urban quickly collects a 5 star DL.

Urban isn't smart. And Weis isn't stupid.

I was not in anyway saying Charlie was stupid. I just feel that if this rumor had any real truth to back it up, Urban would not use his normal sleazeball tactics to steal another recruit. To be fair benneboy, I used the wrong word; I should have said "fairly good (though unethical) salesman"

Yea I graduated in 03 so I got the most out of those.

BD I think you have a decent point, but I will play the devils advocate. Perhaps he thinks that if he can sort of work it on the sly he can get Omar to visit without making big waves and slowly turn the tide towards changing his commitment. The less attention the ND staff pays to the situation the more that woks in the favor of UF. If Hunter suddenly feels a lot of pressure he may back off the entire idea - kind of like slow-playing an opponent in poker. Urban fits the mold of Saban/Zook/Rodriguez where I wouldn't put anything past them, including paying players (yes I know there are others out there). Thus dirty recruiting tricks are nothing to them.

Oh and Urban is smart - don't let anyone convince you he isn't. He knows what he is doing. It's kind of fascinating in a sick way to see how these hyper-intelligent coaches work to manipulate the minds of 18 year old kids. It's a testament to the maturity of most, if not all, of the ND commits that they can see past this stuff. I just hope Omar has the savvy to see Urbie for who he is; a slimeball.

Weis wouldn't "pull" the scholarship; he'd just offer it to someone else. It would still be Omar's for the taking if the other guy didn't jump on it ... and I have a feeling that there would be room for Omar no matter what.

Question: were any of the other d-linemen from this year recruited to play NT? I'd thought that Cwynar and Newman were supposed to be DE's, but is that right? And what about Hafis Williams?

I would find it hard to believe Newman was not brought in to play NT. He is almost the same size, body type and played NT in high school. I saw the video on Rivals and this kid is no slouch.

Yeah, I just saw that both Williams and Newman are listed as nose tackles in their profiles ... sorry I didn't check that first.

Guys,
No more guessing and panic ridden rumors until we have some facts. Currently, Omar is still a solid verbal. We cannot do anything about his visits or decisions. Trust Charlie an Corwin that they will do everything possible to keeep Omar on board. IF he decides to go UF, ND will survive and prosper with the other 21 recruits we have on board. I like every other member here, hope that Omar decides South Bend is the place for him, but in the back of my mind I have said from the beginning that he would be the toughest member to hold onto. He lives in the heart of SEC country. No more rumors, just let's wait to see what Santa puts in our stockings. Go IRISH

For some reason I thought Hafis was being brought in as a DE and Newman was being brought in at NT.

--------Hafis was recruited to be a DT.....which in our 3-4 defense is strong side DE where you need a bigger body, but the possibility to play NG was just as strong. So If Omar leaves then yes I'd expect Hafis to be at NG with Newman. I saw Hafis play a few times this year on TV and he is very big, very strong, always in on plays but needs to work on agility (that may have to do with him playing both ways all game.)
