I think everyone, including Clemson (why they walked everyone up to the line), knew Duke was going to run towards the middle of the field, let the clock run down, then call timeout & kick the short FG.
That’s the correct strategy, but the playcalls was trash.
A QB read where he held it longer than normal, so the RB got control late, with OL pulling in front of him running into him while he was finally getting the ball & the run started. It’s a bad recipe, especially when Clemson was bringing everyone and pushing the OL back into the play.
Just run a straight handoff off tackle & get a yard. Take the lead at half & get the ball to start the 2nd half.
