I was in Nashville yesterday. I was in meetings with a top attorney for country music artists. Never been there. Cool but Broadway was way cheesy and touristy. City is booming. Dozens of construction cranes.

Year the Gulch area has massive development going on. I regularly go there for work I couldn’t believe how bad the music is on broadway but if you venture further you can find some great bluegrass stuff

God Almighty. Are genuine ND people actually discussing ND joining the SEC? I hope not.

A satellite campus in Nashville. OMFG!

The only Catholics in the south are in Louisiana and amongst the Gulf Coast.

Nashville….not so much. That’s Baptist, Church of Christ, Presbyterian, and Methodist country.

City is booming though. Sadly, give it another decade and it’s Austin. Being infiltrated by Californians and Chicagoans.

Born and raised in Nashville...still live here, but this city is a shell of itself.

Californians and New Yorkers single-handedly raised the housing market to laughable heights before the interest rates sky rocketed. Over the last 10 ten years, the cost of living has risen roughly 10k a year.

I remember a conservation I had when my wife and I got married (9 years ago) about the fact that I loved this city and had no interest in leaving it. Fast forward to now and I'd leave without hesitation.

Everyone complaining about “Californians” ruining Nashville. Lol.

I think you guys mean “rich assholes and private equity”. News flash, those same things have “ruined” large swaths of California.

Problem with downtown Nashville is that it’s just not a livable place unless you exists on Uber Eats and Amazon deliveries. Zero amenities and just a lack of normal facilities needed to live

Nashville resident here. Wonderful city. Never go to Broadway.

Edit: Just read the comments above me. Talk about whiplash.

Whoa…pump the brakes man. It’s an internet message board, not much on here should be taken too seriously. I can justify a lot of things in my mind that are ridiculous, if I like it!

But, it was being discussed by ESPN analyst, on ESPN radio. Was there was any meat to it? I highly doubt it, but I just caught the end of it. I just thought the timing of the conversation was ironic that is all.

To the SECphiles:

When CFB becomes the P2, why would ND choose to be in the truly regional SEC vs the B1G that will also have teams in GA, FL & TX plus CA and AZ?

I think Notre Dame should definitely join a conference and I still think after all the adjustments the SEC will still be the strongest conference with the largest recruiting base. That’s why Notre Dame should join the SEC to create new rivalries for recruiting purposes, and to play the best teams.

I went to graduate school at Vanderbilt. The first year, I lived in a detached garage apartment near Lake Radnor. The family I rented from was great, and I loved the quick access to the Radnor and Warner Park hiking trails. It was just a little too quiet for me at the time, and I wanted to be closer to the school and amenities. So, the next year, I rented a home in Hillsboro Village near Dragon Park. At the time, the Gulch really hadn’t been developed, The Nation’s and East was hood, 12 South mainly consisted of Taproom, Rumor’s, and Mafiaoza’s and the rest was pretty sketchy. Aside from Preds’ games and concerts at Bridgestone (Ascend hadn’t been built at the time), I didn’t venture to downtown Broadway too much, and I spent most of my time at Bosco’s — which is now no longer there.

That said, I went back recently and hardly recognizes the place. There’s so much new development all across the city. It basically all happened over the course of 10-15 years too. The traffic is rough, it’s gotten a lot dirtier, people are more rude and not willing to extend a helping hand (I honestly presume these are the transplants because the local Middle Tennesseans have always been kind and gracious), many more homeless just roaming around like zombies…. That said, I guess you can argue both that it changed for the better (in some ways) or worse in many others.

To me, it’s lost all of its charm and uniqueness and now is just another corporate, bland, cookie cutter town. Aside from Broadway (which Austin has 6th street), it really is no different than Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte, etc. Not to get overly political too, but the politics and people moving in droves don’t resemble what the city and its citizens used to be. It’s kind of sad, really.

But hey, you can sell your home for twice what you paid for it, if not more.

I’d love it for ND to join in with the SEC. It’ll never happen, but I’d love it.

Think of that football lineup…

Notre Dame
Alabama
LSU
Georgia
Florida
Texas
Oklahoma
Auburn
Tennessee

And so on…

ETA: Like Notre Dame, it’ll never happen, but I’ve always said that it would be great to snag both Ohio State and Notre Dame. Ohio State could give a big middle finger to Michigan and let them rot in the Big Ten. If you were able to poach those two…well…best wishes Big Ten.

It's 100x more likely Florida & Texas end up in whatever the B1G becomes than Ohio State leaving the premier college athletic conference for an encapsulated regional entity.

St Augustine, FL has one of the top Catholic % in the country. Florida in general has a strong population,

San Antonio is also a very Catholic city and now in SEC country.

Plus, along the rivers you'll always find Catholics in places you wouldn't expect. Cincinnati, Louisville, Evansville and of course St Louis

And you always have to keep an eye for those guys in places where they aren't supposed to be like Philip Rivers. You don't usually go to northern Alabam looking for a big armed, future HOF Catholic boy and that's why Boob Davies didn't. He let Rivers come to his dream school to camp and pass on him in person.

I’m sure Rivers was terrible at the pitch option.

Exactly why he said he had no chance of getting a scholarship.

Sad Boob couldn't read the room on where CFB was heading. With a lil help from admissions, Boob could've had Carson Palmer, Philip Rivers and Jay Cutler in his QB room with little to no effort.

Only ND could've screwed that pooch.

If they can’t generate offense with those guys then it’s on the coaching/development. Not lack of talent.

Haha, what?

Their starting QB, RB, and WR’s are all former elite prospects.

Klubnick (6th), Shipley (32nd), Williams (61st), Collins (86th), and Randall (111th).
Clemson is clearly our second hardest game specially at their home stadium where they rarely rarely lose

LT Blake Miller (208th) LG Marcus Tate (127th), C Will Putnam (101st), RG Walker Parks (50th), RT Tristan Leigh (14th). And, TE Jake Briningstool (61st).

They’ll likely deal with growing pains of being young but they won’t start a player on offense that was ranked worse than 208th in their respective class. 10 of 11 starters will be former top 150 prospects.

Not a “SECphile”, however, it wouldn’t hurt ND whichever conference the school joins. The SEC isn’t a bad conference, but there are plenty of idiots poking their chests out that they are. ND’s Independence has given us the luxury of scheduling coast to coast which can be done in conference to some degree. I’m sure I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. I personally do like the idea of throwing a 🖕to the Michigans of the world but realistically I don’t see the ACC surviving another realignment, and the B1G makes much more sense geographically, academically, and the reasons you stated.

But, I would like to see ND down south more (hence my satellite school idea, haha), for the exposure and so I can get to some games. I couldn’t make the ND LSU matchup in the bowl game. Would’ve been a great one to go to.

How on God's green earth is the B1G the "premier college athletic conference?" Look, I get it, you don't like the SEC and/or the South. I wholly disagree with you and your comments, and I presume the majority will as well, but no reason to be petty. In the meantime, we'll keep cranking out national champions.

With the Playoff increase to 12 teams, I don't see a reason that ND needs to join a conference. Now, if teams start blackballing them, and refusing to schedule them, then that would force their hand. Other than that, why should they join one?
