Kentucky and West Virginia offered. Those are solid offers. Not great but solid.
If Narduzzi and Stoops signed off on him and the staff is getting Intel from a coach they trust, it's fair play to offer him now and see how his senior year plays out. Probably similar to Minich and Hillman last year.
Personally, I'd love for them to try and stay connected to guys they liked that committed elsewhere, then push when they get red hot in November.
Keep 3's on the line even if you want a 5...

The autotransfer rule makes taking depth piece guys early less of an issue. Have to assume some guy that are buried will just transfer after a few years.

Maybe they're thinking special teams here as a guy like this could be a 3 year mainstay on the coverage teams but it doesn't jive with the Mason strategy of using your starters on coverage.

Mason was our best special teams coach in memory so they should keep up with his tactics one would hope.

I hope everyone stays healthy and gets a great college education so that they’re set up for a bright, successful future, but I can think of some “fingers crossed” for this scenario you laid out. ND staff’s straining a back muscle with a few of their reaches in this cycle.

I don't think there's that many reaches in this class so far.

The only ones I'd say are reaches would be Urlacher and if we get him, TBP.

For everyone else, I absolutely see why ND took them. They're mostly big athletes with positional versatility. And a lot of them are significantly underrated, especially Cole Mullins and Bodie Kahoun.

The issue is that they're compounded by the fact that safety recruiting is a surface-level dumpster fire right now. So taking reaches at a position of dire need isn't helping the narrative.

I’d add Knapp and I get why they took him but Larsen I just don’t see making an impact especially if we can land Nelson

I wouldn't add Knapp. He is super athletic and has excellent footwork and despite the lack of size, run blocks very well.

He has the ability to play practically any spot on the OL.

Hmm...my son is in the '25 class. He's 6'2 170. He has good hops. Can dunk easily. He ran a 4.61 the other day. I thought he was too slow and skinny to play college ball, but maybe he could play safety at ND.

In all seriousness, though. That walk-on from Wyoming I would likely offer a scholarship over this kid.

I’ve followed ND recruiting long enough to learn that sometimes you have to be in the right place at the right time at the right position for ND to get desperate enough to give you a scholarship you wouldn’t have otherwise received. (See: QBs David Wolke *and* Darrin Bragg, 2004).

Maybe all he needs is an opportunity and they’ll reward the flyer. That doesn’t usually happen, though.

Size matters. He doesn’t have the athleticism or frame of Wagner and Wagner isn’t a lock. If you look at the top teams olines, they’re massive, getting bigger. We should not be going the other way.

This staff is still going into Season 2 of the Freeman Regime so there is not a ton of equity built up yet on or off the field (recruiting), but at this point we can only hope that they are able to find these rough diamonds and develop them. It will prove their worth to us as fans and, more importantly, future recruits in the classes to come.

It really would have been nice to see this kind of effort and deep dive having been done in previous years prior to Freeman. The timing is absolute garbage.

I hope all of the negative comments about him on this thread add fuel to his fire. It's not his fault that Freeman and O'Leary shit their pants this cycle. Take this opportunity and make the most of it, Taebron.

Watch him be Gilman or Elliott.
I would take it.

Don't understand locking this guy up in June. No one's beating their door down for him, would much rather see staff watch some September film and find an athlete. Can't unsee some 2025 camp TE getting separation from him in his... recent highlights.

ND safety recruiting - where you take LBs and make them DBs...

Was the 2025 TE Nate Roberts?

Notre Dame’s safety recruiting is fully in the “what are we doing here?” zone, and its overall defensive recruiting effort is at least plugging the directions into Google Maps.

No idea but I nor anyone else on this board figured we would only have 2 defensive commits in the top 400.

Can mickens also be safety recruiter. He got his guys early and his board is now Just Beasley… can he save this with some heady slightly slower corners he has watched film on and shot a dm or two at early in the cycle. I mean at this point please look at converting corners over ALL the 200 lb box safeties
