Surely we could circle back to Grant Stec…right?
They could. Wisconsin is also taking two TE and Gino was recruiting Stec for the brief time he was on the Badger staff. Seeing what Fickell's offense at Wisconsin looks like under Longo is going to be interesting.

ND has Carr as the triggerman. That's the card that needs played.

TE is like any other position. Don’t take guys who aren’t going to be good enough to crack the lineup. Most of the guys mentioned don’t look like they would.
Not sure why we didn’t get traction with Benthancur
Bentancour camped away Irish invasion last year. Everyone in attendance saw Larsen outplay him, head to head.
This wasn't about traction. Coaches flat out saw Larsen as the better player.

Can confirm that Betancour really wanted to be Irish.

Is a single camp before their junior seasons of high school really foolproof evidence that Larsen will be the better tight end in college?

An in-person valuation has to have a bit more weight vs. grainy film against vastly different competition and high school offensive playcalling. They definitely take both into consideration, this isn’t an either or.

Watching two guys playing the same position, run around and catch balls at the same time? I have to think it's pretty obvious who's "it" in a half hour, barring injury or illness.

Maybe we reach how to Jamie Tremble isn't his brother Tommy Tremble?

Fact. I spoke to him about it when he got his first offer from Iowa State. It was obvious.

I knew he was really good but I didn't know if he was gonna stay on that progression and be ND good at that point. Turns out he was that and more but ND liked the 6-3 guy more. Which is fine.

Maybe we reach how to Jamie Tremble isn't his brother Tommy Tremble?

It is but he's another 6-3 (or less?) guy. Still might be worth a look at HBack / Bully Slot.

That is if there's room...

I just don't get why we couldn't offer Bentancur tomorrow and get back in it with him

I’ve always been a big fan of in-person eval. However, those evals are still subject to change based on development.

This is purely a hunch from me but I would guess we will see ND make start pushing for some guys after Nelsons visit if they don't think he is realistic anymore. They are probably focused on him this weekend and then will start exploring alternatives

If Nelson still has his OV scheduled (and if Carr is on campus) ND still has a shot. I think this will come down to ND/Georgia battle and if he wanted to be at Georgia he would've committed on the spot.

ND/Georgia has good selling points, ND is selling to him to be next Mayer. Do we have a Mayer on this team now? We will find out this year. can Mitchell, Staes, & Raridon separate themselves this year or will they be a 3 headed TE monster? Can Bowers be as good as he has been? Just like ND he is losing his QB, but I think ND is in better hands with their QB situation.

Does Carter want to play along side of Reddell and vice versa. Kids will say 1 think & do another, recruiting seems to change by the visit.

@PutuporShutup- can you just go to silent watcher sometimes? Are you a Notre Dame fan or what or did your visit from 2000 leave you butt hurt for life?

He is on campus for his OV now.

Carr isn’t there. He had a prior obligation.

Nebraska is a huge threat in this recruitment.

Might be some confusion around his Elite 11 post. He must of received his swag in the mail and posted a pic on Instagram. Though I believe that isn’t until June 14th-16th.

Nah… my approach is appreciate the great we have but identify and debate what it takes for nd to win a championship…. It’s been an ongoing one

We do really need Nelson if Raridon isn’t ever the same…. I was so high on Raridon. Not as high on Flanagan or Larsen

I’m much higher on Flannigan than I am Larsen. He’s, at the very least, a large dude that should develop as a blocker. I’m worried Larsen is a slow TE in a big WR’s body. Though, I will say that it looks like Larsen has very good ball skills. Which, if someone can consistently make contested catches, that can make up for a lot.

This. Another genius move by Rees. Bentancur looks so much better on film. Now it will have to be a flip from Clemson. Not easy but well worth it. If Bentancur is a flip and Nelson is interested then do you still keep Larsen? That is the risk with these early commits.

And no, we don't have a Michael Mayer on the roster right now. I like Staes's upside but Mayer is a generational talent for any given college program.

Agree… just don’t see either coming close to continuing the tradition…staes and a healthy back to normal raridon could… don’t see it with our 23 and 24 te, unless we get Nelson

Not many, including NFL teams, have a Michael Mayer on their roster.

Larsen beat out these guys head to head and was one of the top TE recruits in the country early in the cycle, with offers from more or less everyone. It is what it is. I still think he’ll be an impact pass catcher in the slot and in an h back type role as tremble.

To be fair, I don’t think many thought Smythe was going to carry on that tradition and here he is guaranteed to have approx $14M in total NFL earnings after his last contract. Could be more.
I mean tradition at nd, not nfl. He did little at nd

Doesn’t matter when using his name in recruiting. It actually helps more.
Tell kids that anyone who plays TE at ND can make the NFL.
And if he didn’t produce because he stunk, then you could say the evaluation was bad. But he didn’t stink, obviously, because he’s in the NFL. He just played behind other really good TE’s.
You are what, 25?
You haven’t suffered through actual bad, I mean atrocious, recruiting & seasons.
ND had classes not long before BK that had as many 2 Stars as 4 Stars in it, one OL, ranked outside top 40, etc…
