I think it has more to do with roster management. That extra scholarship could be of better use someplace else.

As it stands, ND would have seven underclassmen at wide receiver heading into the start of next season. And in all likelihood, there will be 2-3 added in the ‘25 class. The depth is set up nicely moving forward.

The Portal Era can change everything, of course. But, at this moment in time, Freeman, Parker & Stuckey can be satisfied with three while still adding another player later on.

This stance is the exact opposite I have on basically every other position. However, I've actually been talking about this for a few years now. A lot of it was due to the offense we'd been running. When running so much 2 TE sets, seemed completely unnecessary to carry more than a 3 deep at 3 WR spots. That 10 number is a 3 deep plus 1. Makes total sense to me. You need to land qualtiy players, however. Which Stuckey is back to doing.

Now, if that were to change and we're running more 3, 4, and 5 WR sets more frequently, then yes, the depth chart would need to be bigger. I also think a smaller room that is more engaged (we'd hope this also limits dissatisfaction with reps/PT). Save 2-3 spots at WR and go get some defensive athletes.

Lastly, I think we have a lot of PTSD due to how poorly Del managed the WR room. But, (let's call it Pre-Del), Denbrock and others didn't have a problem. WR recruiting was quite good before Del got to town.

Think about this, prior to Del getting to ND here were the guys they signed in the previous 3 classes.

2014: Justin Brent, Corey Holmes
2015: ESB, Miles Boykin, CJ Sanders, Jalen Guyton
2016: Javon McKinley, Chase Claypool, Kevin Stepherson

Of the 9 WR's they signed over 3 classes, 7 were 4 stars. 6 were top 200 players. Stuckey has got us back to that level and with that, I think we can afford to focus scholarships elsewhere.

I am in no way considering 2025 at this point. The twists and turns prior to August 2023 will be enough.

It's a very fluid situation and a lot can change between right now and when this 2024 class is finalized. If a guy wants in and you can't afford to take a pass, take a fourth.

I'd like to see them throw the ball more and more effectively going forward. It sounds like, however, Freeman is committed to being a run first team. My PTSD stems mainly from being on the outside looking in offensively with the elite recruits. So do what needs to be done to keep Carr stocked with skill people.

Wonder how they plan to use him. Traditional slots have generally struggled to prove more valuable/effective than the second and third string tight ends at ND lately.

If you're telling me to recruit 4 or 5 to ultimately land on 3. I'm with ya. If you're telling me we're at 3 and a 4th is a high quality BPA at the end. I'm with ya. I just think in general, the composition of the WR room can afford to be less if we're bringing in quality guys. In fact, I think it'd be heathier for the room. A smaller high qualtiy room is how I'd have it.

Looks like we might find out with Tyree.

One of my takeaways from Parker's most recent press conference when they brought up Styles, the first WR he mentioned to fill the void was Tyree. Tyree also had that big play catch in the scrimmage. Seems like Tyree might be making his move on the slot WR spot.

My hope was 4 high quality guys in this last cycle and 4 quality guys in the one coming up.

Ryan Roberts did an update on Robinson on their podcast a bit ago and said;

Jason was supposed to show up the 17th & stay for a day. But he is STILL at ND at the time of the podcast (this afternoon), so over 2.5 days, which is extremely rare for an unofficial.

Said the staff hit it out of the park with him & his family.

Said that there is not a commitment because the staff wants him to finish his visits first, and he has his officials coming up in June.

Then Driskell chimed in we might see Robinson speed up his timeline in the next couple weeks with “factors” that will be taking place over that time. (Sounds like to me they are hinting for the second straight day multiple ND offensive recruits will commmit soon).

So that is the latest from Ryan Roberts on Robinson.

Especially with Notre Dame being such a big school, if you're out there ballin', you're gonna get so many NIL opportunities. They are connected with so many different brands that a lot of the people aren't connected with and it's just gonna make you so much more, all the while you're just being able to be a baller up there."

Maybe I am reading more into it than I should, but this seems like a noteworthy change. "if you come and you work, they're going to take care of you" is a lot different than what we used to see when they'd talk about NIL.

Thats what they've been saying from the beginning.

That may be true, but its not upfront money and I doubt its anywhere close to what some of these kids are getting at SEC schools. Kids and Parents want money up front.

this is what its always been, basically you get a standard "wage" from FUND
