I would imagine they’ve both already been reached out to by both those schools haha. Mylan doesn’t need Dwenger academia to get into ND, it’s simply on him showing up to “play school” as they say.

FWIW, it doesn’t seem like a lock from previous reporting that Graham has all his ducks in a row 100% with regards to qualifying IIRC. Seen a lot more positive language around Tae Johnson in that regard

This is why I tried to provide context to Mylan early in the thread. It was going to be a longshot for him to even get into school let alone recruit against Ohio St.

I always use Rod and Jaylon Smith as my examples of two D1 athletes from the same family where their college destination was based almost solely on where they were able to attend high school. East Allen Schools vs Diocese of FW/SB.

Although Tae Johnson appears to be in better shape academically than Mylan, I'll still never understand why they both didn't go to Luers or Dwenger. Surely those schools have enough financial aid for 2 studs if money is an issue.

I think this is a fair point—especially given the fact that his current academic situation *is* good enough to get him into OSU—just not ND. And, it could be that he just isn’t necessarily motivated to take that step, for whatever reason.

@MacIrish75 I totally understand what you’re saying here, but I don’t think it’s any different than catholic school recruits nationally just being more accustomed to the ND culture. VJ Beachum was two grades behind me at New Haven and had no issues at ND academically.

The Luers/Dwenger aspect is overblown IMO. They don’t need those schools on their transcripts to get into ND. Obviously it would help from a culture standpoint like I stated above, but it isn’t a fix-all solution to any academic issues.

As I’ve mentioned earlier in this thread after speaking to people within the program, this is a Mylan issue, not a New Haven issue. He has work to do even to get into Ohio St and half the battle is literally showing up.

Dwenger is more affluent—but mostly based on location relative to traditional feeder parishes/schools. “Better” is subjective.

And I tend to agree—but Dwenger (and Luers to a lesser extent) send multiple kids to ND on a yearly basis. They are geared toward ensuring kids (and especially athletes) have their transcripts and scores in order to qualify. It can be “done” anywhere—but the onus lies much more on the individual student at a majority of public schools who work much less with ND Admissions. And, in the case of FWCS and New Haven, there’s a lot of working in the guidance departments to just make sure kids can walk at graduation, let alone qualify at ND.

I want to reiterate I’ve got nothing at all against New Haven, besides being an NHC/NE8 rival. It’s a solid school and I know quite a few folks over there.

While I understand the sentiment, this isn't new. There have been plenty of players over the years that were from Indiana, highly rated, but couldn't get into ND. This is not a new impediment for Freeman or the ND football program.

The path to winning is still controlled by Freeman and his staff. Just like those before him.
