Thank god everyone is distracted by this OC search or I'd look like a real boob.

I don’t think so but it’s all going to affect recruiting
For sure, it will hurt it bad. ND is already easy to recruit negatively to, why give them ammo? Hard to overcome the whole they do not care pitch if all evidence points to the fact the admin does not give a crap. Freeman's job just got harder, now he may have particpated if he chooses Parker, but if not then the admin look worse.

I don’t have it in for Parker like others but it’s a dreadful hire. Hartman is almost going to be the most experienced person on the offense including the coaches

As a hire it doesn’t even solve immediate problems like Freeman’s work load he now still has to find a OL coach and a QB coach.

I'm fine with them giving Parker a shot I mean he will have to suck really bad to screw up our offense next year. Anyone of us could be OC and our team average 30 PPG. Anything less than that he gets canned.

This is textbook setting up your inexperienced coach to fail. Of course he chose his friend. They believe in each other, there is a shared history and it keeps the culture intact. But ultimately it’s a panic hire by a 37 yo head coach, and Swarbrick (Powlus? Bot? Money man whomever) set the table and lit the candles.

The path laid out before us to maximize a young, energetic head coach was going to require financial commitment. The money people fumbled the bag. Regardless of how this works out, alumni and fans should be furious at the way the athletic department handled this.

I mean, Brian Kelly went 8-5 his first year, lost to Tulsa and Navy. Also had history of hiring his buddies from CMU and GVSU and UC. And even after all those years of experience, he hired Brian VanGorder.
And, respectfully, this non-sense is why this reaction is such. I'm not sure it's because of the admiration and affection folks have for Freeman or the self-loathing they have for being ND fans. Either way, just not comparable in any way, shape, or form.

Brian Kelly didn't inherit a top 10 program and coach his first game at ND in a NY6 bowl. Brian Kelly took over a program that didn't even have training table. In the 3 seasons before Freeman took over, ND football won 32 games. In the 3 seasons before Brian Kelly took over, Notre Dame Football won 16 games. And, those buddies you speak of, had won a shit load of games for him as a HC, at every stop.

Marcus Freeman walked into an already exceptional situation for a first time HC. It's about as good as it gets, literally. What other first time HC has walked into a better situation than Freeman in the last 10 years? Kirby Smart and Ryan Day. That's likely it.

Kelly had other options.

MF had his primary option pulled away from him by our moronic admin.
Again, completely devoid of reality. Brian Kelly was never given several millions dollars to buyout a coordinator's contract. So, all things equal this is no different. You just want it to be.

Kelly hired Elko and Freeman. They were two very good coordinator hires that did not require some obscene buyout. Nothing is stopping Freeman from doing the same other than himself. Saying that he's being hamstrung because a singular candidate is off the table is literally the dumbest fucking thing on planet earth. I'm sorry but just because the media says it, doesn't make it right or smart. They're just as dumb for repeating this idiotic narrative that "The Gug" wants you to repeat. But, as we can all see, it's clearly working. Marcus Freeman has no option but to hire Parker.

Hopefully Parker is a really good football coach who just hasn’t been in the right situation. We’ve got a lot of talent and Freeman pivoted real quick to him. Though the search has been confusing, we probably saved enough money to fix those ice tubs Driskell was talking about. We shall see soon enough.

I woulda been fine with Parker as OC if it meant the QB and OL coach were major additions. I like Gino. Think that’s like a B- or C+ hire for QB coach in a vacuum. Watt being hired for offensive line would really be an inexcusable fuck up
