I've got a buddy whose pet peeve is our lack of a dedicated LB coach. I don't agree because we're in Nickel so often these days that LB just isn't as important of a position as it used to be.
Between Golden and Laurinatis (and Freeman), and all the nickel, the lack of a dedicated LB coach doesn't really bother me. But if we can upgrade from Bertrand/Marist/Kiser to Junior/Kollie/Sneed, it makes things a lot easier for the rest of our defense.

Nick L is also Vandy’s LBs coach this year. He was essentially the LBs coach last year as is Laurintias this year, though less qualified in actual coaching to date.

There are a bunch of idiots and/or overserved people on every board and we just have to deal with it. They love to show up when things go south to complain and whine and seek to fire people.

They are certain of their football IQ and I assume they hold very minor positions in society and have to vent their life frustrations through sublimated message board posts. The hoi polloi are everywhere, go back and read through the game thread. The hubris displayed is incredible.
Game day thread is taboo for me.

I’m not sure if Golden should bear the brunt of blame for this, but the defense was not ready at the beginning of the game. They looked unorganized and unenthused. Credit to Golden for the adjustments, but that has to be better against stronger competition. Consistency in general has to be better
I haven’t researched it, but IIRC most teams had success on their opening drive.

This was something saw throughout the year that it never “felt” dominant but they would suddenly string together 3 and outs at a pretty nice pace.

The red zone D making it feel like once teams entered our territory was not good and felt like we were “easy” to score on but you had to actually string a drive together to do so.

I would welcome this with open arms.

Al Golden is not the defensive coordinator this team needs and there are other candidates currently available that would do a much better job, IMO.

I generally like Golden. But Jim Leonard is available
Freeman should be like "Oh no hate to lose you! please stay! But it's true they don't have to recruit in the NFL though, and you're skillset is better suited for the pro game, and look how long that offseason is! Best of luck!"

"Hello Jim, Marcus Freeman here. Here's $2 million please be here by morning."

Would he go back to coaching Linebackers or is this a coordinator position? I know the NFL is what is and I understand Tommy wanting to learn under arguably the greatest college coach of all time. But is there something going on behind the scenes with Freeman? Lauranitis, and now all this movement...feels like something is up...idk..maybe i'm paranoid.

It reads coordinator. i.e., if the current defensive coordinator of the Bengals gets the head coaching job, he'd want Golden to join him in AZ, or the Bengals would look to Golden as DC replacement.

Don't think he's a fit. Runs the 3-4 and the last two recruiting classes have been full of guys recruited to play in even fronts.

I'd look at Joe Rossi at Minnesota.

Aren’t we transitioning to a 3-3-5?

Joe Rossi is a good shout.

According to ISD, Golden never moved his family to South Bend. They stayed in Cinci. Apparently loves the city and has wanted to return. Why leave in the first place than?

Because the ND DC position was better than LB coach with the Bengals.

I also think there's probably a bit of Golden that realizes he prefers the NFL game. We never hear much about him as a recruiter and his scheme seems much more suited for the professional level.

Possibility of him going back to LB coach..

"The same sources felt Cincinnati would have interest in Golden as a defensive coordinator candidate or to come back to coach linebackers as he held that position in 2020 and 2021 (Super Bowl run).''

I always assumed it was so he could jump to either an NFL coordinator or college HC job. But figured we’d have him two/three years, not one.
