The easiest thing to do is slam someone when the chess table doesn't favor them. Maybe this pushes him to retirement but I think he's done a great job for ND over the past decade. He's ushered in massive changes, massive brokering for future CFP expansion and I think he's done as good a job as anyone in the country. He has a chance to checkmate this bitch with Freeman and continue the energy developing internally. Kelly was the catalyst for this next step.

The fact that a self-serving coach left in the middle of the night means he has the chance to set us up for the future. If he plays it safe and hires Fickell or Campbell, then I'll finally say he failed us. If he hires Freeman and continues to direct ND football into the future and help us pump more money into the program/facilities, there'll be nothing in the way.

But the announcement needs to happen before the weekend. We can't step on our dicks for a month waiting for Fickell. We must capitalize on this momentum and strike.

All this talk about BK leaving because of facilities to me is a crock. I think the fact that Swarbrick is in his last days is the major reason why the Gug expansion hasnt gone anywhere. It doesnt help that the last 2 years have been a write-off due to COVID.

The players don't give a shit about the facilities, that's for sure. When they talked about it in the Assaf Twitter Space the general consensus was, "Uhh, there's a problem with the facilities? What do we really need?" There were a couple small items they've been asking for, like turf down in the area that the linemen do walkthroughs in, but it was small potato stuff they weren't broken up about. Should we get them done? Absolutely, biggest and best is what we should have. The facility argument is overblown though.

I agree and disagree. To the incoming recruits it's about the flashy details. Once you get here they could care a little less as long as they are getting the correct coaching and training. But i still think they need to upgrade these to a degree. The reports we have students studying on the floor of the GUG is BS. We have all read the rumors of the upgrades and as much money as ND football brings in they should keep these facilities more up to date.

Exactly, from a recruiting standpoint you want the flash to entice players, and for that reason we should have the best of the best. The ones that commit and are already here though? Yeah, there don't seem to be any complaints.

Here’s the deal with the Gug. It’s not about adding bells and whistles. The Gug isn’t functionally optimal for these three reasons:

1. Not enough study space. Or space in general.

2. No dedicated training table. Meals are wheeled in to like a lobby where they eat. Training tables need to be available 24-7.

3. It needs updates recovery rooms, equipment, tech, etc.

Does this make or break a lot of recruitments? Probably not. It does some though.

But primarily it would help the players on the roster in a huge way. It would make their lives much easier which means more energy for getting better at football and school.

Makes you wonder why he was targeted in the first place. How do you get that deep in the cycle and not realize that. What happens if we get on Devin Brown or the other ‘22 QB’s we were interested in down the stretch, first. QB recruiting just seems ass backwards at times.

I mean on paper, a 5 star QB from a private Catholic school seems like a slam dunk fit right?

The coaches and recruiting department are paid to look at more than that.

QB recruiting is just extremely unorganized. The more that comes out, the more it looks like a who’s on first, what’s in second, cluster

Having taught at a private catholic school it doesn't surprise me at all. The star athlete is often a crappy student and a lazy one as well. They recruit too y'know.

Yeah 2022 definitely seems worse and worse the more that comes out. Gotta land our guy in 23 (and 24...).

I don't doubt that but you'd think they'd at least have the classes right?

It’s more than likely nothing about him being a good student or not, if even true. It’d be a dumb credit thing. Most guys of his caliber take the classes they know they need to get into any schools they are interested in. If he only took classes senior year to get into LSU, there could be something credit wise lacking.

The redshirt freshman, Nussmeier, entered the game when J. Daniels went out late with an injury. Don't know the depth chart, but obviously Howard isn't in the two-deep.

He has agreed to Red Shirt. He won't be seeing the field this year. The kid is all-in on LSU and Kelly's turn-around plan FWIW.

Must've been the dancing.

Seriously though, for all the bungling of ND's quarterback pipeline, this is how you do it. Bring in a grad transfer. Have another capable backup. Protect your true freshman five-star and give him at least a year to develop before you put him out there in real game action. Don't expect him to come in and be the savior b/c odds are that'll just screw the kid up.

Something to remember whenever Carr arrives.

Apparently poached by TCU, so will get a crack at the job along with Morris.

This is where back channeling and feeling out what each other is looking for is interesting. TCU wasn’t in the market for someone above Chandler Morris but was in the market for someone younger to push him for the job.

Howard would likely have been in the portal the second we got Hartman in alternate history. Unless he beat out Pyne last year.

Throwing Howard into the ND QB room with Buchner/Angeli/Minchey and Carr coming would have been like that video of the kid throwing frozen French fries into a stove top pot full of bubbling oil.

It’s probably for the best they got a sixth year senior.

All these guys transferring for depth chart reasons after one season are nuts.
