We're going to need an NIL salary cap.
Nah, just need to stop pretending it's NIL. Allow true NIL; legalize pay for play. ND isn't going to lose out to a bunch of farmers and shoe peddlers once pay for play is legal.
Yeah that's the thing. I think trying to regulate it at all is the problem, from an ND perspective. Just say that schools can't write the checks but any other money earned by players is above board. Then collectives are free to just spend their money as they see fit.

Under the current NCAA, there is no situation where regulated NIL is good for ND, because no one else will abide by the regulations and ND will.

Sampson didn’t mention specific names but noted that if ND has a recruit that Oregon is after they should be concerned b/c that school is putting together phenomenal NIL packages that are enticing to both player & family.
... and yet Oregon appears to be losing their five star QB recruit?

Disagree. The only way ND is going to compete with the pay up front people is by offering such lucrative deals kids are willing to wait to sign.
Y’all are something else. Even with the potential losses, this will be the most athletic recruiting class of the last few years. I’m excited about the future no matter what.

This is true but you still need elite difference makers like Keeley and Bowen to be realistic contenders. ND can win a ton of games with classes like this one, no doubt. But probably not 2 or 3 in a row in December/January against elite competition. I think some are happy with that level of success, and some are not. I don't really have a problem with it either way I can understand both perspectives.

BYU won a national championship. Don’t think they get elite difference makers 😐

We can if we land 2-3 classes like this in a row. It's not enough to get one elite class. We need to bring talent in at all positions of need every year.

I'm going to ask for the integrity of this thread and for the overall sanity of human beings on this website that no further retorts are made about BYU winning a National Championship.

Please. I will beg if necessary, but, please.

2013 was pretty solid
I find it funny the example of “it’s no different than how we were recruiting lately” is a class from literally 10 years ago.

You’re admitting this is an improvement without realizing it!

Do people remember that situation?

BYU was unranked, played Pitt the first game & upset them. That bolted them all the way to just outside the top 10.
They then played zero, including their bowl game, ranked teams the rest of the season. They played all G5 teams until their bowl.
Their bowl was the Holiday bowl against an unranked team.
Everyone else lost games, playing good competition, & BYU just moved up.

Their schedule was:
Pitt (preseason 3, not that good)
Baylor
Tulsa
Hawaii
Colorado St
Air Force
Wyoming
New Mexico
Utep
Utah
Utah St
San Diego St
Holiday Bowl vs Unranked Michigan

That Pitt team was perhaps the most overrated preseason team EVER. They only won 3 games that year and it was against 3 win Tulane, 2 win East Carolina, and 6 win Penn State.

If I recall correctly, they didn’t beat a team with a winning record. Their National Championship was a complete joke.

I member. They were led by Robby Bosco at QB. The rare BYU QB who didn’t have an NFL career.

Once Bowen and Limar decommit, do we have a single commit that visited another school as a ND commit? Greathouse wasn’t the Texas campus. Minich was at the Game but without an offer. Ausberry and Bell as brothers. Anyone as a legitimate prospect I’m forgetting?

EDIT: I guess Traore did, that 2 day drama.

Not a tough tell to learn.

Other than proximity to home I really don’t get this one. I don’t know how you watch our success with RB’s the last few years and then decide to go to Oregon with an unproven OC, who was calling plays in highschool 3 years ago

Close to home + a little NIL + maybe he sees the field faster? But I dunno. Short-term thinking seems rampant these days.

Oregon has had a good running game as well. And they distribute carries well amongst their top three dudes.

Rees was an unproven OC three years ago when he first took the job. Stein coached at a Texas powerhouse (he coached Hudson Card too), but spent time in college before that. Their resumes are nearly similar.

Proximity and NIL won out here. Lanning also did a great job in his first season, despite a few end of season losses.

There is hope in thinking if we had just beat Marshall and Stanford but I’m not thinking that’s much of a factor. I’d love to think a 10-2 ND would have recruited better but it i$ what it i$.
