I know Mickey was a good recruit coming in but he has struggled this year. But you mean to tell me none of the 2021 CB's weren't able to be any better than him. Not trying to Monday morning QB this but this isn't a good look for the 21 guys.
A freshman passed previous players, just the way it works sometimes. Blake Fisher over everyone else as a freshman last year at LT. BF certainly hasn’t been passed up when healthy since.

It doesn't make sense, but it's not a lie. We handcuff ourselves when big football factories will take anyone the NCAA says is okay. Swarbrick has said in the past that if the NCAA split into a "Pro" league and an "Academic" league that ND would absolutely stick with the Academic crowd. Sucks for the football fans, but it's fact. I don't like it anymore than the next guy. We're always going to come up a little short against the big boys because we do the right things like honoring scholarships and caring about academics. We'll get upsets, but you can't expect dominance when you're playing with self imposed restrictions.
Idk I think Michigan is in a similar boat. They took 3 transfers last year, all of them graduate transfers. Their fans also complain about academic standards also. Now they’re looking at back to back Playoffs, with a legit chance to win it this year. Not to mention we recruit (marginally) better than them.

They don't care. They don't need the football program anymore. The endowment is like 20 billion now.

And trust me, the faculty hates football and frankly, would rather us be secular.
From the guy who brought us “trust me, Dante Moore will be Irish”

We are at a significant disadvantage when it comes to transfers and academic
Standards. The administration needs to lighten up. It’s inexcusable why we didn’t go get 2 transfers at WR this last year hell just about every WR on USC was a transfer

Yes, I know the admin makes it more difficult for us to get transfers but nowhere on the two sites that I read have even given this notion. Of course, our Intel sometimes can be lacking But maybe it was on the staff.

Would you propose we schedule like them, too and give our guys half the year to get in stride?

Probably should. There is no incentive for playing a tough schedule with the playoffs. Going undefeated or 11-1 ensures you a spot 99% of the time.

Fisher jumped the depth chart because he was/is a freak. Mickey jumped the depth chart because our other corners SUCK or are not ready despite being older. BIG difference.

Welcome to the club, Troy.

It’s not even the homerism from Fowler that bothers me. He just doesn’t have THAT voice of a play by play guy.

It’s annoying.

Herb used to be good but he’s gotten lazy and clearly doesn’t do his homework anymore. Nothing was as evident as his analysis of the Brandon Joseph fair catch.

Not having Hart and Bracy was tough, but this game came down to the failed 4th and 1 in the first half along with the fumble on the first drive of the second half. That was your game.

Even with the two turnovers, I was surprised how Pyne played. Even more surprised how SC ran the ball at will in the second half.

Congratulations to everyone who saw Caleb Williams play for the first time and not only gave him the Heisman but were fitting him for his HOF jacket in Canton. If we're not a knee jerk reaction of a society, we sure do love a fan boy sports culture.

Yes but UM also retained their head coach had 2 serviceable QBs and WRs, little turnover on O and D, soft schedule, no gapping holes from prior HC @ WR and QB. Let’s see how they do in a couple years. I don’t bank on them being as good in the next couple of years tbh.

Truth. Freshmen rarely start on an OL if you have balanced and stable recruiting at the position. When a Freshman does start it's because either the kid is an absolute monster, and/or you've got some holes from past recruiting cycles. It's generally easier for skill players to find playing time early because speed can be a game changer and unlike linemen most skill players don't need to spend time bulking up when they first come to college.
