There is no reason there shouldn't have been 50+ for the Irish on the scoreboard today. Imagine if MF wouldn't have called those timeouts at the end of the first half and go in and score a TD with 1:40ish on the clock???

Navy is awful. They went full ham playing Madden punt block on defense every play in the second half and ND pooped their pants.

My point was the Delaware game doesn’t mean anything. Maybe that team sees the option more, and we’re better prepared. Don’t give me talent level excuse. Option is made to counteract that.

This was almost a carbon copy of the Stanford game in the sense of Pyne’s inability to do basic shit causing the entire offense to implode against a bad defense.

When they routinely zero blitz or completely sell out against the run, you need to have the football IQ to throw the ball on time where it needs to go. You cannot just hold the ball until the unblocked rusher gets home. Against Stanford it was the opposite problem — not being able to read drop 8 and melting down in a different way.

The coaches and other players weren’t perfect but holy crap.

Just watched a few highlights (recorded) to see what was going on in the second half...

Nearly every down, Navy had minimum seven in the box. I believe the game changer was the 'line-drive' throw to Mayer on the sideline. A foot of loft and it's six. How do you jack that up with no pressure on you?? As Spurrier would say, "That's a simple pitch-and-catch".....

We had one. On a 20-yard third-down pass to Colzie that felt like a minor miracle. Then Pyne got sacked twice and we actually lost yards on the possession.

Yeah. I don't know. Either through playcalling or QB play we needed to figure out a way to not have Navy just blitz our offense to smithereens the entire second half. It's not Pyne's fault, he's just not enough.

We deserved to lose this game. The second half was one of the worst I can remember. Getting sacked 5 times and giving up multiple passing TDs to f’n Navy? Good thing this game wasn’t 5 minutes longer.

Over time I just get more and more disappointed that some OCs (eg - Rees) get paid so much money to not realize things like this and adjust mid-game.

We’re all shouting it out in the game threads, and yet we continue to drop back Pyne and let him look for deep shots instead of dialing up screens and quick throws.

The slow developing runs don’t work when the defense is crashing the box. They needed the quick hitting downhill running game that dismantled Clemson.

When will they throw a bubble screen?
I’d even take a traditional screen.

I watched that play a few times.... it's almost that Pyne threw the pass out of desperation because Estime let the defender go full-steam ahead at Pyne..... luckily, Pyne hit Estime in the numbers with the pass.

I counted at least 2-3 plays in the 2H where a dialed up screen would’ve gone at least 20+ yards, if not the house.

Yes, guys were getting open. But Pyne was consistently showing an inability to find the open guy under duress. As a playcaller, you then need to dumb it down and dial up a play where his primary reads are quick and easy.
