Dang, Villa got Unai Emery from Villareal to manage them. If he turns them into Villareal, they could do some damage in the EPL.
Great La Liga manager.

His tenures outside of Spain have left a lot to be desired. I'm frankly surprised by this but I'm sure his ego wants another crack at the Premier League.

Denmark to win Group D at +275-+300 range seems like a solid bet, for those that enjoy that sort of thing.
So much weird stories coming out of the French camp before the World Cup, plus history will tell you the reigning champs don't perform well in their next World Cup for whatever reason.

Going to be very emotional seeing Eriksen back in his countries colors on the world stage, may as well try and make some money off it.

yeah its strange, but hes brought Villareal as far as he can get them i reckon
I think this is the case. They probably can't get much better, and Spain has been hit hard by budget constraints post-COVID. Back in the EPL and that sweet sweet tv money is hard to turn down.

yeah having three teams not reach the CL knockouts is crazy considering their previous dominance. TBH the spanish teams are gonna die a slow death without a Super League in the near future. EPL is king

And that's why they, and Juve, are such big proponents of it. Really sad and unfortunate.

What annoys me most about all of it, is the tough access here in the US for Champions League viewing. When Fox had it, you could find the games on 3 cable channels. Seems CBS doesn't want to show as much themselves, and would rather use Paramount+. The US is the tapped market for the EPL, other leagues need to find a way in, and/or get the CL to get a better deal to show those teams in every US household.

How was your trip???

Random Person: It was okay, except we couldn't get any sleep. No idea why they felt the need to shoot off fireworks all night....

I don't think I could bring myself to partake in something along these lines.

Can't think of a North American equivalent here, and that's kind of a good thing.
"Brian Kelly killed a kid"

Not the same, but an ND example that gets brought up a sad amount even with BK gone now

definitely Declan Sullivan crap you see on twitter anytime BK/ND was in the news
I see this to a degree, but it wasn't like crowds were chanting this when ND was in their stadium. It's internet/social media trolling.

This is opposing fans making light of nearly 100 people dying. Regularly live in person at matches. I like sports as much as anyone, but I don't have that kind of angst.

Yes, it's an ugly part of the sport. I was really discouraged to see the videos coming out of the away end of City's supporters when they were at Anfield a few weeks ago. There is a lot of bad blood between the two clubs over the past few years, but City fans crossed the line with the chants.

Liverpool fans are by no means saints (see some of the songs being sung about Queen Elizabeth at Rangers a few weeks ago as an example), but something needs to be done to root these piss poor chants about Hillsborough out of the sport.

There was a fantastic ESPN 30 for 30 Documentary done on Hillsborough Hillsborough - ESPN Films: 30 for 30

It has been the majority of Liverpool's English opponents this year, not to single out City. Just seems like kind of a shitty hill to die on. Maybe go back to the songs about that guy slipping ten years ago?

I remember Hillsborough has a kid only because I recall George HW Bush mentioning it and seeing him talk about it on the news. I don't think I could sit through that documentary.

"Fantastic" was probably not the right word to use, but is a very powerful documentary that one cannot walk away from without feeling just terrible for what those people went through on that day, and what their families dealt with in the aftermath and are still to this day dealing with.

It is a brutal watch, so can't blame anyone who decides not to watch it for their own mental health.

I get you. I'm sure it is probably very well done. I don't know that I can get through that, though.

Soccer fans are insane though.

Nothing more human than bitching about how things are today compared to what they used to be. Today’s “old style” fans were yesterday’s “new style” fans.

I’d say overall that TV has been great for sports leagues. Millions of fans getting to experience the joys of sports who previously never would have.

I think the point was this clip was from 1994 and they were bitching about how things were GOING TO BE, and they were not 100% accurate but somewhat close.
