Freeman has been the coach for like 9 months so the recruiting part is irrelevant.

On the transfer part, Rees had total control of the offense by all accounts. If he was telling Freeman he didn’t want transfers because he didn’t want to mess with players feelings (could have had Slovis or Daniels but Rees didn’t want to make Buchner sad) then Freeman would have said ok.

I doubt your characterization of who made those decisions is accurate. The final decision always falls on the head coach. Rees may suggest or offer his opinion but the final decision falls on the head coach. The OC follows the head coach. If the head coach is inexperienced and lacks knowledge, then we have a problem.

Maybe someone like Lax with independent info can chime in but based on how the beat discussed it, I believe that’s what happened.

Also if Rees said we need a QB there is no way Freeman is saying no.

Poor Rees. He once enjoyed unconditional and at times unwarranted support. Now he is made a scapegoat. Of course, Rees is struggling. He is learning on the job. Should he not be given a chance to learn like Freeman? Since potential seems now to be the primary criteria by which we hire and retain coaches, is Rees's potential any less than Freeman's? Why is he now so expendable? Heck, he has had some success as OC...Freeman not so much as HC.

If you believe Freeman needs time, why is that same level of patience not applied to Rees?
Buddy, I hated the Rees hire the day they hired him.

If you are Freeman- what are you saying to Rees today?

Is he on a short leash?? Put up or shut up??

This dude is not exercising good faith arguments. He’s currently in a position to troll and is exercising his right on this board.

I am simply point out the hypocrisy of those who argue to be patient with Freeman but not applying the same standards to other coaches.

If we are going to be a day care for up and coming coaches, so be it.

It's a bad faith comparison. Rees has been a P5 coach for 6 years, and is in his 3rd year as Notre Dame's OC. Freeman is coaching his 3rd game as ND's HC.

I’m telling him that he’s done.

He can’t recruit his position worth a shit and his can’t put points on the board. He’s a dead man walking at this point.

Inexperienced, most likely younger than the next OC, not much talent to work with
So you pay someone a lot of money and tell them that they get a long leash to rebuild that side of the ball. It can change quickly too, just need good QB play and 1 or 2 more good pass catchers to emerge and it fixes a lot of our offense's problems.

The fact Tommy Rees is an employee on Freeman’s staff is strike one against Feeeman in my book.

Rees was not hired by Freeman. He was hired by Swarbrick. And of course he would never have been the OC in the first place if he hadn't played at ND.

Tommy can't win with these cats. Just needs his own recruits. Give him 3 more seasons to heat up.

Ok. Let’s say reads Freeman IE and we fire Tommy this afternoon, who replaces him? Any OC worth hiring is currently employed.
Promote Parker as an interim? Give McCullough a shot?

Bring on an 'analyst' like Tom Herman who can call the plays. Rees should not be calling the plays.

I am aware. I have read the same articles you have plus some. Tommy Rees shows he was clearly being helped by Kelly. Can him.
You’re a moron. Already thought it, but This post in combination with the one right before it seals the deal.
