Way early but this guy Manti Te'o from Hawaii stands at 6'1 235 and inside linebacker sure fire top 50 pick has an early list with ND, along with UCLA USC this guy can flat out play and is probably going to be the one the most physical inside linebackers. one word describes him sick. A Brian Urlacher slash Rey rey from SC.

This class is certainly setting the Texas like trend. Get em in early.

----Does this guy really have an ND verbal offer? It says he's got verbal offers from USC, UCLA, Tennesee, Cal and alot of others. If that is true then he looks to be the #1 player next year and if not that then top 5.

In an interesting about-face, USC head coach Pete Carroll – who had reportedly told all previous LDS signees at USC that he would not hold scholarships for them if they chose to serve LDS missions – personally called Brian and told him he would definitely support Manti’s firm church mission plans and hold a scholarship until he returned.

-------Offf course you did Poodle. Where are your morals?

you know its interesting. You don't think of players from Hawaii as ever being recruited well except by Hawaii. Just thought it was a little wierd.

Hawaii's elite and not so elite are prized catches through the west. I count 40 some Hawaiians on Pac10 rosters.

It looks like it. Here's a few quotes from a recent article about Manti.

“I have 16 (verbal) offers right now,” said Te’o. “Off the top of my head, BYU, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, Stanford, Cal, Texas A&M and Colorado are ones that are standing out. But I’m still open to all options. Right now, I’m just concentrating on my season.”

Te’o is an excellent student, holding a 3.7 GPA and planning to take the SAT this fall.
“I want to major in architecture or engineering, and I want to go to a school that has a strong focus on that,” said Te’o.

Alright, well we'll put him on the offer list when there is confirmation from a 2nd source.

I know Charlie is being very stingy about the 2009 class, but why have we not joined the rest of the world and offered Te'o?

Nd was one of the first teams to verbally offer Manti, but they just hven't given him an official written offer yet. I know CW likes to do it in person if he can so maybe that's the hang up.

Probably come shortly after the season. We will be attacking the recruiting pretty hard then.

Seems like we would be the longshot. Not many winters in HI like there are in South Bend. His flip flops will freeze and his surfboard will be useless!

I'll be in Hawai'i in 2 and a half weeks with my bro's fam and our parents...I'll put in the good word with Mr. Manti. This kid is a friggin' player. Very impressive videos. ;) Hell, we'll steal him and make him watch the Stanford game with us... :D

Wow! thats the best tape I've seen. He's like a combo of Arthur Brown and Steven Filer. He seems to have the athleticism and hitting ability of Brown along with the ability to weave through traffic like Filer, who is the best I've seen this year. This kid will be special, we need to get him.

My money is on BYU with this one, unfortunately! His religion seems extremely important to him!!!

Again, damn those later day saints, but BYU does not exactly have the best climate for him. Hawaii could get him of USC are my best bets

True but if he is willing to go to some 3rd world hell hole, where they have no idea what toilet paper is, for his religious mission....I think that the clim at BYU would be a cakewalk to him!!!

I take it your not big on helping people. If Manti wants to try to better the world we should praise him, not rip him or the people he's trying to help just because it might cause him to not pick our favorite school.

That didn't seem to be ripping anyone... some of the places that they go on their missions really are hellacious. That's why they go to help people - because it's a fact that the area is so awful and needs outside help.

Am I missing something here? Is he a Mormon... from Hawaii? I like BYU, and I would much rather see someone with his size and talent go there over USuCk.

Have to agree with you GG. If his faith is that important to him we should applaud that. Alot of young people today are more into the me first attitude. I would love to see him come to N.D. but will respect him if he chooses to follow his faith.
