Faith is very important at Punaho (I think that's how you say it). But in the end USC will land this guy.

Am I missing something here? Is he a Mormon... from Hawaii?

Yeah as Pete said there is a very big Morman population in Hawaii. That was the main reason that BYU was Hawaii's biggest rival when they were both in the WAC. Steve Young also had his very exspensive and private wedding at a Morman church in Hawaii.

Per rivals, two Irish coaches will visit him next week. (I bet the coaches will find a player in HI to go visit every year from now on. )

From what I'm hearing BYU is the likely destination here. The info I saw indicatded that he is a very religious young man that may find it hard to be a school that focuses on a different religion, or one that is all about the glitz, glamor and parties. I've also heard that his school it's self also draws similar camparisons to BYU.

you would have to think that would be good news with us, especially after all the high praise Ryan Harris gave ND for supporting his religious beliefs. If he decided not to got to BYU our chances should only improve.

Does anyone know whether ND is on the visit list for Manti Te'o? Or is a foregone conclsion that ND is not in the picture for him attending?

78, you may be right, but after reading the article on IE from legacys post, you get the feeling Charlies recruiting has put us in the running, where maybe before that Jan visit we weren't on Te'o s radar. Maybe he is only telling the writer/interviewer what they want to hear, but it still sounded like we have a shot.

Teo is very much interested in the Irish. We should get one of his officials.

Do Teo and Xavier Filo know each other? Maybe if we get one we may get both.

Most likely Te'o will go somewhere else. From what I have read Mormons don't look too kindly on Catholics. It's evident that they spend alot of time in catholic countries strying to convert the faithful.

no chance he is going to be irish. He will go to USC or BYU.

No link, huh? I guess you shouldn't make these claims unless:

A) A birdie flew up on your shoulder and told you so that he's attending either USC or BYU.

B) You know the kid personally and he's entrusted you with this high level information.

*Keep in mind...Recruits do on occasion read these forums and has been known to turn them off to one school or the other. Let's not write this young man off just yet...It is afterall, just May.

Scout had an article saying that the Irish will make the cut when he narrows his list, and that he would like to take an official here.

I think he was a lock for USC, but they've taken a few linebackers already, including Vontaze Burfict, who's an incredible talent. The cupboard may be full, and he sees that, and that's why the Irish have been making a climb. Also, Charlie's recruiting has done a lot, as Te'o said in the scout article.

Don't make too much of his religion. Sure, it's a big deal, but that doesn't mean it's BYU or USC, or that ND has no chance because of their Catholic tradition. Many people of many faiths have come to, and suceeded at keeping their traditions at, ND.

As far as Mormons not liking Catholics, I'm Mormon and currently a student at the Law School. Most Mormons I know, and I'm from Utah, have no problem with Catholics and actually hold them in high respect for their faith, traditions, and social efforts.

I would think the only thing that would be different, not impossible, just different, would be working thru a 2 year mission, if Te'o were to commit and decide to serve. Only because I do not think the ND Football program has had to work thru this situation before. I know BYU does it all the time, and there are alot of NW schools who deal with it more often (I know specifically of BSU) and they just have to take different things into consideration- thats all I am saying.

Can't he take his mission after his playing days, like when he graduates? Sorry, I'm not too familiar with the Mormon religion.

He theoretically could serve his mission after his playing days, you can go up until you are 26 but that doesn't happen very often as most people who can afford to go when they are 19 go then. The problem is if he gets drafted following college. If he really is set on serving a mission and he gets drafted, there is no way an NFL team would let him put it off and he would be forced to choose between a (probable) lifelong dream to play in the NFL and a (probable) life long dream of serving a mission. If he goes either before or during college he can come back and still play in college and get drafted after the fact. My little brother is facing this as he is likely to be drafted in the first 5 rounds of the MLB draft this summer. He decided to accept a scholarship to BYU because they would work around his mission. I know that if Charlie is willing to work with him on this it would be a huge selling point.
