Tell me again that it's genetic.
Good little video.
Tough times create strong men, strong men create easy times, easy times create weak men, weak men create tough times.
Kind of random. Did you wake up this morning and have a laugh about it and decide to share with the rest of the class?I still think it's funny that some people still think that one morning you just wake up and decide, "You know, today I prefer penis instead of vagina. I think I'll have me some Chad or Todd tonight instead of Christine or Tina."
"Lifestyle"

I am a former social worker. Some do actually, while some don’t. People have their own different stories.
People don’t wake up and decide they like rap music or country music either. People don’t wake and decide they like meth or fentanyl. It’s about society and what people are exposed to. People don’t wake up and become a child predator either. Typically they themselves were exposed to it as a child.
It’s not hard to conclude the rise in those that identify as whatever correlate to exposure to some extent.
It was the "Tell me again that it's genetic" that got me.
I have a first cousin in his early 50s. He's the only gay member of our family that we're aware of, male or female. I couldn't begin to tell you where his "exposure" would have occurred. Every aunt, uncle, cousin, etc. knew he was different from the time he was a toddler. The older members of the family all just knew it early on I guess. He "came out" less than fifteen years ago, to the shock of literally no one. Everyone just...knew.I guess he makes a better argument than you just because it makes you laugh. Its sort of a empty argument to just say people dont wake up craving penis. But those numbers make a good argument comparatively. Exposure is the key dynamic at play. Using prisons as an example there is more than genetics at work in a place like those places. Its amazing how many jails I have worked in where your most straight people turn gay. Exposure and necessity not genetics or waking up on the penis side of the bed one day.
The sniff test for any sensible person would be does it make sense for people to lie and actually join a community that is routinely ostracized?I have a first cousin in his early 50s. I'm sorry that the tone of my post is what is bothering you, but the cynical tone I'm getting here isn't anything I haven't heard before and I'm prone to laugh that people think you just decide who you're sexually attracted to based off of lifestyle, and what you're calling exposure. There are powerful biological factors at play from what I can gather that make it genetic.
I'm sorry to you that I chose a snarky approach to joining the discussion since that seems to have irritated you. I take it upon myself to be more mature going forward in the threads that are of a more serious nature.

Also being a guy, there's no shot I would ever want to share a bed with another dude as the amount of sweat and smell that we omit is terrible. I don't know how it's possible there's straight women out there, but god bless them for being attracted to us hairy neanderthals.
People are making light of the fact that it takes a lot for someone to come out as gay etc. Just common sense would tell you that. There's literally no incentive to "deciding" to be gay.Are you suggesting someone is claiming people that claim to be gay are lying? A sensible person sniffing around might conclude confused rather than lying.
Also when it comes to smell its science. Women are naturally and more attracted to a scent of a man. Men are attracted to the scent of a women. I remember (probably 2004ish) hearing about a study of how the smell of a fresh clean vagina raises the heart rate and increases blood flow and also messes with the body chemistry of males. Not sure what science says about how a women reacts to a clean penis, I do have some anecdotal evidence that could masquerade as evidence/data one way or the other but you get my point.
There is either an incentive or human biology is changing. As illustrated by the illustration that started this conversation.People are making light of the fact that it takes a lot for someone to come out as gay etc. Just common sense would tell you that. Exactly, cultural/societal changes allowing people to be more comfortable seems a lot more likely than some sort of incentive or biological development. There is either an incentive or human biology is changing. As illustrated by the illustration that started this conversation.
To crack the nut and tell you what I think. Culture has changed significantly by generation. Biology has not.

I am not irritated at all. I just know you have more tools in your box than your post would show.
Just simply saying something is genetic is sort of a lazy argument as well. It opens up the argument that pedos are biologically pedos. It opens up the argument for really any other sexually maladaptive behaviors to blame genetics. There is really no smoking gun or "whoomp there it is" study that nails down a gay gene or genetic makeup. I think its "funny" that we can argue there are strong biological factors at play but and use an argument veiled in biology but totally dismiss biology when talking about gender and pronouns. LGBTQXYZ is one big alphabet soup of contradiction.
The best answer a geneticist can probably come up with is that there might be something somewhere but can never pinpoint what or where. Its obvious it plays a role to some extent, genetics determine sex (although some would argue sex is a social contruct or whatever). But even so if biology or genetics is the sole argument ( I was born this way ) its a bad one that opens a slippery slope for sexual disorders/deviance.
My toolbox isn't as sharp as you'd give it credit for.
Would you admit that anti-gay activists would rather insist sexual orientation is a behavior that can be changed, not a characteristic that can be unchanged? It's just as lazy an argument for them as it is it just say they're born that way. It's 2022 and there are still plenty of Anita Bryants out there.
Sexual orientation supposedly happens early, perhaps before birth. Perhaps. Obviously not 100% but it's not like there is a switch you turn on and off, which is what I crudely joked about before.
I understand that science cannot conclusively determine what causes sexual orientation, but there are biological and environmental forces that determine it. It isn't a personal lifestyle choice. I don't think there is any "gene" but I think based on what has already been studied that genetics plays a factor more than just deciding it.
Either or? I don't know.More comfortable deciding to be gay or comfortable being gay? I know the right answer for on your end would be to say the culture shift and acceptance has allowed people to who they have always been but is that really the case? Growing up in my little bubble I really did not even know being gay was an option. I am sure there were many like me that really never came across or was exposed to gay people, gay media, gay anything. I kind of equate it to my Mormom X-Girlfriend. She grew up being exposed to and being taught she would have to find a nice Mormom fellow. After I exposed her to a non Mormon she sort of had this epiphany and her pool of men got a lot bigger. I have a family member that could be a better direct example. She moved across country, had a hard time fitting in and started hanging out with a certain crowd. She then came out as a lesbian shocking everyone. She was 12. She is now 16 and admits now it was a phase and her and her mother (my sister) argue all the time because my sister insists she is bi and brags she has a bi daughter but my 16 year old niece insists she is a straight as a Mormon missionary. She would tell you she was "gay" trying to fit in and establish an identity.
TBH nobody knows if it is really genetics, upbringing/surroundings or a combination of both. My uneducated guess is that it's a combination. In the end it doesn't really matter if someone is gay or not.
Is it a bad? Does it matter? Those are the sticking points. Bad is subjective and needs context. In regard to what? Me personally? Society? Child Development?Either or? I don't know.
I think we all have anecdotal stories either way depending on the time/place we grew up. But if laws/attitudes are becoming more accepting it seems natural that people will feel more at ease to decide or comfortable being gay.
At the end of the day - is it really a bad thing? Some think it is but they won't say it's bad there's more LGBTQ people out there.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not for having an agenda, particularly by one of the most influential media companies on the planet. Advertising has raced to be in the woke club. I don't know what the percentage is, but I would guess the percentage of commercials depicting a gay couple is higher than the percentage of the population that are gay.Is it a bad? Does it matter? Those are the sticking points. Bad is subjective and needs context. In regard to what? Me personally? Society? Child Development?
Disney and their push on children they are drawing a huge line in the sand. Pretty much what I was saying in another post is that kids in the Disney phase of their life are very confused. There are stages of life kids go through. Lets confuse them even more in a pivotal stage by introducing gay cartoons, which is admittedly in reaction and response to Florida's new law. Its one thing to try to normalize gay but its another thing to push it. The Disney saga is an example how its going beyond normalizing and its just trying to over saturate our kids with the gays. What is their goal? Well they said what their goal was. Countering Florida law.
Florida law bans instruction or classroom discussion about LGBTQ issues for kindergarten through third grade. For older students, discussion about gay and transgender issues has to be “age appropriate or developmentally appropriate.” At the same time students are not really taught about straight sexual identity or sex until the same age. Sex education has been banned in many states already until around the 5th grade or 10ish years old. It also requires schools to disclose to parents when their child receives mental health services. The argument for this is the school is a safe haven for children to discuss their sexuality free of parent interference. That is not what schools are designed for.
As a Christian man that teaches my sons they were created with a penis with the intention of pairing them with a vagina to procreate, this is a problem. Same with my daughter that I am teaching the opposite. Is it bad for me and my goals as father, for sure it is. Is bad for you and your goals as a father, I dont know and honestly I dont care that is your business, or if you like its the governments and Disneys business since they obviously have goals for your child.
Just seems counterproductive that when someone says or makes a law that bans teaching about sexuality for younger age groups (when its not in even in curriculum until later anyway) that the response is more gay more gay more gay. You can disagree with Floridas law if you want but it does show on the other end that the goal is to saturate and expose the children to as much gay as possible. If gay is normal part of society and as natural as they claim kids should be exposed to it normally and naturally anyway. Why the push to saturate even further?
