Got to talk about Mr. Carver now that West Virginia offered yesterday.

Hss been committed to ND LAX for over a year. Originally from Woodbury, MN.

ND Football has extended a PWO offer at this time.

IU and others have been kicking the tires too and he's made football visits without offers so he's interested in football.

Been on campus for two games this fall.

Dude's got a Rairdon frame and early tape from his first year of football at Culver is impressive.

I'll let LAX take it from here as to what level of athlete he is and any other news from that vertical.

He's a very good lacrosse player, I know who he's played against in showcases and I've seen him on film. Hard to say where he stands as a football prospect. It's hard for people to turn down full football scholarships when lacrosse can only offer partials for most players. For example, ND was heavy on Xavier Arline as a PWO RB and lacrosse player... but he opted to take full tuition at Navy + the ability to be an option QB after decommitting from UNC lacrosse.

With that being said, the best direct lacrosse-to-football comp you'd want to look at Sam Hubbard. Similar "big skill" prospect with limited football experience. Main difference is that Hubbard was much faster but also much lighter and so you could project him at a bunch of different positions. Ended up being an NFL caliber DE for Ohio State. Carver is physically imposing and a "good" athlete in terms of being fluid for his size but I'd bet he runs something like a 4.8 40 (at best) at ~210-220 pounds right now... contrast that to, say, Sonny Styles who is maybe an inch shorter and about the same weight. They aren't really close as athletes... and while you don't expect anyone to be Sonny Styles you can still use that as your measuring stick. If Sonny is a 10 out of 10 in terms of a "big athlete" then Hubbard was like an 8 and Carver is like a 5.

Now, does that matter if what you want to do is bulk him up and have him play DE? Or even OT? He's a legit 6'5"ish and could get to 260+ no problem. Could end up being anything from an irrelevant practice squad player somewhere to an NFL player because he simply hasn't played enough football to know where he fits or what his ceiling is. The kicker is that he has a high level of hand eye coordination, so that has to give you a reasonable level of confidence that he won't have issues as a pass catcher if he sticks at TE.

But with where ND is as a football program and where he's at as a prospect, I think he's more of a PWO candidate with legitimate ability to earn a scholarship down the road. He's also reportedly a good student so I'm surprised that the Ivies aren't more in play for him as a football option, but maybe he'll get more offers after the season.

Man it’s hard to pass up a full ride for football as a lax guy. Seen a bunch of top level lacrosse guys go the football route, 3 of them were on the field Saturday. Lax can correct me but a fully funded D1 lacrosse program is splitting 12.8 scholarships between 40 some odd guys.

Yup, and unless you're a truly special player coming out of HS you come in on very little scholarship. They tend to award more scholarship money as you prove yourself and the top ~20 guys get the bulk of the limited scholarships. So the future earning potential of the NFL + a full ride is very hard to turn down even if you prefer lacrosse.

Looks like he projects more as a blocking TE who will get the occasional pass thrown his way.

Will be interesting to see what his PG film looks like, but right now he’s the classic “high upside” project player.

Forgot to add. Told me he will be visiting LSU next weekend, not ND.

More to come.
