The one position coach we absolutely had to hit out of the park and we settled for some dude none of us had even heard of.

That is the insight. They interviewed both and liked Stuckey more.

Except do you even know that? Maybe Shepherd liked washington or their OC/HC more. Maybe ND low-balled him on salary. For all we know, they liked Shepherd more, but couldn't land him.

Those possibilities are the insight he's looking for.

Maybe. If MF and TR are hiring dudes based off of where they grew up though, we're in for a world of trouble.

I wouldn’t exactly phrase it that way but it’s also silly to not think background can play into a coaching hire. When I identify he is from Georgia, I have no idea where that goes next but that could mean HS coaches, trainers, name recognition, ability to relate to recruits, many things I hope we find out. Its not strictly I like how Georgia looks on that birth certificate

Nah. Shepherd was waiting to hear from ND before taking the UW gig. It was offered to him like a week ago.

Thinking about it, I would have preferred more experience given the composition of the staff. That being said, I know nothing about this dude and he might be great.

But will he be great right now? Because that is what we need. We don't have the time to take an up-and-coming coach and let him develop. We needed someone that can go into living rooms right now and sell blue chip talent on why they should choose ND over Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, USC, etc. I just don't see how someone with basically no resume is going to be able to do that.

JaMarcus Shephard, Purdue's receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator, is leaving the program for a similar position at the University of Washington, the Journal & Courier has learned.

That's what has been reported by the ND beat at the very least. Maybe they're all lying. ND passed on Shephard for Stuckey.

Started with Hartline as the target, ended up with Stuckey. Womp.

You start with realistic hires. Hartline was never a take, he wasn't going to leave his alma mater where he has talent for days to come and coach at ND. Even if Day was gone there's probably a very slim chance Hartline leaves given what he has done there.

Besides, from what others have said Stuckey was the first choice so he must have hit it out of the park.
