Devil’s advocate - what’s stopping UT and TAMU from doing the same thing with Arnold? Neither have offered him. God knows they have the NIL money to throw around and it certainly would be easy to sway an in state kid.

Quinn Ewers and Connor Weigman, for one.

Because Saban gets what Saban wants. Not so much with the Texas guys. Mike Frank and Jamie said the same on a recent podcast.

I'm going to throw this out there at risk of having massive egg on my face -- I would not want to take him as an early commit in this class, because if Bama has a need for QB later in the cycle I have a hard time believing we wouldn't get poached. Nothing specific about Vizzina, just a general uneducated opinion on trying to recruit players out of the state of Alabama.

Arnold is my preferred QB because of his athleticism and the fact that we aren't getting Nico. Hard pass on Dante Moore unless ND strikes out with everyone else..

I take it Bama have not yet offered him. I reckon he would go there as the number 2 over ND.
I am all for the Guyer guy.

Notre Dame ‘a Contender’ for Top 100 QB Christopher Vizzina (247sports.com)

“There's something really special about Notre Dame that other places don't have. My faith is really strong, and it means a lot to me. So, Notre Dame, honestly, kind of reminds me of the school I go to right now. It's not a Catholic school, but I am Catholic and Italian. So, that probably appeals to a lot of Notre Dame fans. But I go to a Christian school. Our colors are also navy and gold, which is pretty cool. We have the same fight song. And I loved going up there this past time.

I'm really hoping it's someone other than Vizzina. No offense to the kid, but he doesn't have an Alabama offer yet, but one will come if they strike out on Arch Manning. If that happens, ND is gonna lose its QB commit and be in a real bad position.

ColinKSU when Vizzina flips his commitment from ND to Alabama: "Manning is a pimp. He never could have outfought Buchner. But I didn't know until this day that it was Vizzina all along."

If the standard is an Alabama offer, that’s a bit high. Alabama has no reason to lock into regional ties recruiting QBs. Bryce is from Cali, Tua from Hawaii and Mac Jones from Florida.

I think he's saying he is worried Vizzina will flip to Bama if offered, which seems to actually be a legit concern. If that happens in like September and Arnold, Moore, etc. have already committed elsewhere then we're gonna have a bad time. I don't know what you could really do about it though. If he wants to commit how are you gonna tell him no?

I got that. My post was poorly worded was kind of two things not one. With the Bama offer/decommit part, I don’t think it’s assumed Bama would turn to him after Arch, I really don’t think Bama is even in the top 2 there. But even if he was, Arnold comes with the same risk. As does Moore to some extent. Just part of recruiting the elite

Moore being a Detroit kid, with heavy Michigan interest, is going to give us all palpitations for months. Arnold though seems like a no bullshit kind of dude that will commit somewhere and lock it down. He's probably the one I would feel best about sticking.

Moore I think is not prioritized by OSU completely they like Nico a lot, same thing with a lot of the southern schools right now. So not like a worry of who he grew up rooting for because has that offer but he definitely has some eyes elsewhere.

(I'm not sold that Buchner is the answer at QB.)

Besides Arch, Nico also dictates the carousel a bit. One name I’m kinda surprised we didn’t just toss an offer out is Dylan Lonergan, has the big offers by and large. Has a Stanford offer too. He holds some of the cards as well.

I have no info one way or the other but I've read a lot on Chris. I do not share the sentiment that if we got a commitment from him, he's a high risk of de-commitment should Bama come calling. Could it happen, I'd be crazy to say it's not a risk. It's a risk for all prospects to some degree. But, he's very open about his faith and being the leader of a class. If ND gets his commitment this Spring and Bama comes calling in the summer, I think Rees and Freeman will have it worked out by then.

With that said, I think the right answer is, continue to recruit all members of the QB board and see how this takes shape in the coming 1-3 months.

No doubt. First to commit out of Arnold, Viz, or Moore gets the gig.

We don’t need no stinkin QBs or WRs. Direct snap to Mayer/Estime every play. 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

Wake me up when ND is willing to do something with NIL.

Like I said, being a “good recruiter” has never been less important. Just write a check and get who you want. Or don’t and get leftovers.

I think you need both. One without the other doesn't really work. Yeah, not being in the game gets us the leftovers, but unless we are blowing other offers out of the water, we will also get the leftovers from the better recruiters that can convince a kid their program is better for them while also offering similar money.

Peyton Bowen a leftover I guess?

Good perspective. I think you’re right. In a situation where things are similar/equal it’ll matter who your coach is and how you’re being recruited.

Alexa, set a reminder for signing day.

I’m really skeptical that we make it to the finish line with most of these ‘23 recruits. I think there will be a tremendous amount of pressure — financially and otherwise — on all the top 100 kids in the ‘23 class.

Seems pretty glass half empty. Not sure why we believe in the boogeyman so much now just because he’s out in public. Not every elite kid decides based off NIL nor is it the instant reason we lose a recruitment. I think you’re actually dead wrong on many elite kids, they will decide less based off NIL than “the leftovers” because choosing the wrong school for their development, playing time etc to make NIL money now will cost them NFL money in the future. Caleb Williams for example, why risk less a chance to go 1-1 and make the average salary at that position to go 1-15 and cash a mil of NIL? These kids (and their families) can see that. Tate said as much just the other day. That leads back to the easier truth here, Clemson and OU make more sense for Arnold and Vizzina, on paper (and maybe in reality).

On QBs, the truth is I worry that the whole Vizzina and Arnold recruitments was a bit of a facade that Tommy botched in pursuit of his Day 1, Dante Moore.
