Slovis I’m not even convinced would have benefited us. Dude is immobile like Coan and hasn’t developed his reads. Does have a better arm but not convinced we would not have just a immobile QB who makes short quick throws which Buchner SHOULD be able to do already.

Agreed. If this was last season, I’d prefer Slovis over Coan but that’s not the case anymore. Sucks that Buchner will get trial by fire in the opener in friggin’ C’bus but fans & media remember November and if he stays healthy and improves against good to great competition over 12 games, he will get a lot of grace if he happens to have a rough performance in game one.

If Slovis goes to Pitt and stays his remaining 2 years of eligibility then ND faces him in 2023.

So Stroud - OSU, Miller - UF, Ewers - Texas in the end.

transfer rule dumb

Damn, now Alabama doesn't even have to hit on recruits in their top ranked recruiting classes. Now they can just pilfer the best players from across the country. If ND doesn't figure out a way to take most of the kids from the portal, they are severely handicapped compared to the competition. Gibbs is gonna fucking kill it at Bama.

Yup. Bama will poach 3-5 top kids from other P5 programs every year. Great year at Kentucky? Mississippi State? NC State? Come on down! They added an elite LB and their top WR through the portal last year. This year they already got top RB, top CB, etc. It's a joke and will only get worse.

Yea, it’s sad, but it’s not surprising. Where there’s money to be had, people will go towards it. The game has made a lot of people wealthy. We don’t live in an ideal world. And it’s difficult to criticize younger people when they aspire to be like more established people, secure with money and opportunity. And many adults like it this way as long as their pockets stay swole.

I don't fault the kids at all. They are going where they will finally get a piece of the pie. If you are a top player and want to improve your stock, it makes sense to transfer to a big time program. I stopped watching the NFL a few years ago, I still catch highlights every other week. CFB is heading the same direction for me, parody is being rapidly diminished. It's not even on the level of MLB, it's worse.

Fortunately, there are plenty of things that want my attention.

Right. I agree. I guess my point is that adults set the precedent. Adults set the example for greed. Aspirations to be rich and famous are often pitted against principles of team, honor, commitment. But exploitation has pushed the things we love to take the quickest route to have more and faster. Which is why the games we played when we were young have lost much of their innocence to a corrupt world. Anyway, I will drink now, lol.

Wyoming QB Levi Williams enters the portal a day after rushing for 200 yards and 4 TD's (never been done by a QB before in any bowl) in their bowl win.

I think it would be easier to announce who isn't in the portal now!

Before free agency back in the 1950s & 60s, the New York Yankees basically used the Kansas City Athletics as their feeder team. Once a player in KC started doing well, the Yankees would pluck them off the A’s roster for themselves. Sometimes it was even veterans making a late career push (like Hall-of-Famer Enos Slaughter). Roger Maris is probably the most notable name but go look at Yankees rosters from that era and count how many of them spent time in KC. Not coincidentally, they won WS titles in 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962….that’s what Bama has become.

Sampson on 2 pods talking about QB transfers expressed ND being concerned possibly about not Buchner being the starter, but Buchner getting hurt and going to Pyne.

I almost wonder if with all these starters entering the portal, you let the dust settle and see who maybe is left with worse options than they expected and give that person a call. Whoever that is will probably be better than anyone planning on coming in as a backup, if that person even exists haha. Plus guys who lose in the Spring.

Just searched a little through the portal for some highly rated dudes and some interesting names. I'm sure there are tons more but RS SR Cam Johnson from Vanderbilt could be an interesting name. I don't think he's a game changer but he'll be a 5th year in 2022 with eligibility for actually 2 seasons and was a top target for a terrible offense at Vandy. Frank Ladson is an interesting one because he's super talented, never really did much at Clemson, but has 2 years of eligibility. Now, I'm not sure what his status is for graduation but he just finished up semester #6 and if he stays at Clemson in the spring he'll have gone through 7 semesters which should be enough time to graduate. He has transfer CB's to Miami though and idk what kind of connection he would have to ND. Seems like slim pickings in the portal for WR for now and I also heard Sampson saying the UTEP dude is not a fit. So it'll be interesting to monitor through the end of bowl season and into January. If ND wants a dude to come then 1/18 seems like the last possible time to enroll if you're gonna play spring ball. If not, it'll have to be summer time.

Big true. ND and other "blue bloods" won't be immune to this either... there will be rampant tampering every offseason with certain schools trying to poach players with promises for NIL money.

Who drops the hammer though? The NCAA is toothless. Until the CFB powers get together and hammer out an independent governing body, we're basically in the Thunder Dome. The old sheriff's dead.
